Seinfeld Actor Shoots Himself in The Head } Critical
Character actor Daniel von Bargen, best known for his portrayal of Mr. Kruger in "Seinfeld," is recovering after a suicide attempt Monday morning at his Montgomery apartment.
Von Bargen, 61, called 911 operators after shooting himself once in the temple.
"I've shot myself in the head, and I need help," von Bargen tells the dispatcher.
Von Bargen told the dispatcher that he was supposed to go to a hospital later that day to have some toes amputated due to complications of diabetes.
He told the dispatcher that he had not managed his condition very well.
"One leg has already been amputated, and the other is already worthy of it," von Bargen said.
The actor admitted to feeling depressed before his suicide attempt.
"I have no children and no life, and I’m tired," he said.
Police officers can be heard on the 911 call recording as they arrived at von Bargen's apartment.
They ask if he has any more guns in the house, and von Bargen tells them he has just the one, which is lying on the bed next to him.
Crews took von Bargen to an area hospital, where TMZ.com reported that he was listed in critical condition.
In addition to playing George Costanza's clueless boss on "Seinfeld" from 1997-1998, von Bargen has appeared in such films as "Silence of the Lambs," "Basic Instinct" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
His last acting credit on IMDB.com is the 2009 comedy, "London Betty."
