Rangers Sean Avery -Our Friend- Gets Arrested

 BY JESSE SPECTOR

The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed that Rangers winger Sean Avery was arrested at 1 a.m. Friday for
battery on a peace officer, and taken to jail.

According to a report on TMZ, a neighbor called police to complain about noise from a party at Avery’s home in the Hollywood Hills. Citing “law enforcement sources,” the report said that Avery’s response when police arrived was to shove the officer at his door, then slam it behind him.

Avery reportedly was cooperative after the initial confrontation, but still arrested for his initial action.

The LAPD confirmed that, five hours after the incident, Avery remained in jail. His bail reportedly has been set at $20,000.

The incident is just the latest development in what has been a very busy offseason for Avery, which began with the opening of his second Manhattan restaurant, Tiny's, a bistro on West Broadway in Tribeca. Avery also made headlines with his very public support of marriage equality in New York State, and at the beginning of this week was the subject of controversy when a Russian outlet quoted former teammate Alex Frolov as saying that Avery used racial slurs on the ice. Frolov told the Daily News that those quotes were inaccurate, and that while Avery "in the past ... could say the wrong thing," he never said anything to the Russian interviewer about racist comments.
