More than 4,000 athletes and their supporters are anticipated to invade Chicago next week for the 35th annual Gay Softball World Series— the planet’s largest annual LGBT sporting event—to enjoy a week’s worth of softball and social events. The series will officially kick off with opening ceremonies on August 29th at 5 PM in the Grand Ballroom of historic Navy Pier.
All are welcome to attend the opening ceremonies, which are free to the public, and include appearances by rugby star Ben Cohen, Drag Race contestant Pandora Boxx and actor Leslie Jordan.
The softball tournament, which begins on August 30th, is expected to draw 175 teams from 43 cities in North America in five divisions. The championship will be played on September 3rd, the last day of the series.
