She said she was going to shake hands but left the makeshift stage quickly when 17-year-old civil rights advocate Gabe Aderhold of Edina, Minn., loudly questioned her husband Marcus about his counseling techniques to “pray the gay away.”
Most of her three minutes consisted of frequent campaign rhetoric that she says at many of her stops, such as her chant to make President Obama a “one-term president.”
“It’s going to be a great election that’s coming up and Iowans are going to send the signal,” Bachmann said. “This is where Barack Obama got his start, this is where he’s going to come to his end. In Iowa.”
CROWD: Hundreds. There were supporters, onlookers and members of special-interest organizations. U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, also was in the crowd.
OTHER ISSUES: Bachmann made note of the appeals court ruling today that said a key part of President Obama’s health care reform is unconstitutional. The ruling said that Congress exceed its authority by mandating that most Americans buy health insurance by 2014 or face a penalty.
QUOTE: “And if nominated by the Republican Party, I will not rest until I elect 13 more titanium-spined senators and we’re going to finally repeal Obamacare, Dodd Frank, turn the economy around, create jobs and it won’t take more than three months to get the whole shooting match already up to speed,” she said to loud applause.
REACTION: The crowd, many who stood for nearly 90 minutes, groaned after she left the stage after speaking for three minutes.
