Supermodel reveals torment over sex-change treatment
Trans Givenchy supermodel Lea T has revealed her torment at undergoing sex-change treatment, adding she would rather have been gay, in an interview with US chat show host Oprah Winfrey.
The Brazilian model, who is currently preparing for a full sex-change operation, was overcome with emotion after describing the treatment that she has been undergoing since 2008.
“It’s really difficult because you fight with all the world. You fight with your family. You fight with yourself too, you have to change everything in yourself,” she said, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The 28 year-old added: “When you start the hormones, it’s really, really hard. It’s not a game. Your body starts to change in a short time.
“The skin is changed a lot. The cheekbones grow. The hair, it becomes super long. The hips become bigger.”
Lea T, who was born male and named Leandro, grew up in a deeply religious environment in Italy where her father Toninho Cerezo was a professional footballer, and she was bullied from an early age.
Her parents were more accepting than she expected, but she revealed she would have preferred to be gay. “I was hoping I was gay because, for my family, it would be less painful. And then I could... have a normal life,” she said.
“I wish I could accept my body like men,” she added. “It would be much easier for me if I could be a straight guy and have a girlfriend, family and daughters, married, all this normal life.
“But it’s something in your brain - born in the wrong body.”
The model, who is seen kissing Kate Moss on the cover of the current edition of Love Magazine, revealed mixed feelings about undergoing the sex-change operation.
“Physically, this operation is a big operation”, she said. “But at the same time, I think it’s mental too. To think like: ‘Wow, I cut part of my body.’”
