Gay Rights Advocate and Renowned Athlete to Speak at Penn State DuBois

DUBOIS – An advocate for the rights of gay athletes, Brian Sims is set to speak at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, in room 209 of the DEF Building at Penn State DuBois.  His program is free and open to the public.

Sims has the distinction of being the only openly gay college football player in NCAA history.  After becoming a champion on the gridiron in high school, he went on to be the captain of the Bloomsburg University football team, and in 2000, led the northeast Pennsylvania team to their best season in school history.

Today, Sims in a lawyer practicing in Philadelphia, but he is also an advocate for gay athletes, and other people with diverse lifestyles, actively working to broaden the minds of individuals around the country. 

In 2009 Sims became the Board President of Equality Pennsylvania and the Chairman of GALLOP (Gay & Lesbian Lawyers of Philadelphia). He is also a faculty member and former State Political Leaders Fellow at the Center for Progressive Leadership and the Managing Editor of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s newest publication, Upon Further Review.
