Georgia Rep Hates Gays, Loves Gold

  Bridgette P. LaVictoire

Apparently State Representative Bobby Franklin of Georgia has never realized that there are a lot of prohibitions in the Bible that he is breaking every day of his life, but that does not stop him from attacking homosexuality. For that matter, this is the guy who also believes that all business conducted with the state of Georgia should be in gold and silver.
“The Bible says it’s a capital offense,” Franklin said of homosexuality. “You want someone with unrepentant criminal behavior? And it’s not just that, neither should adulterers, neither should thieves, neither should a lot of things. The church is full of sinners, but we’re told in 1st Corinthians it rattled off the homosexual, the adulterer, the thief, the liar, and such were some of you, but you’ve been washed, you’ve been justified and so forth. It’s not what you were. You’re not punishing a thought. But do you want an unrepentant drug dealer in the military? Same thing.”
Of course, if lying was a criminal offense, then Franklin, a politician, would be in jail. As would most politicians, a good number of lawyers, and the entire news commentary staff of FOX News. For that matter, so would Tony Perkins, Maggie Gallagher, and quite a large number of people. As for adultery- shall we execute John Ensign and Christopher J. Lee right now? In fact, of the things he listed, theft is a crime, adultery harms very few people, lying can hurt a lot of people, and homosexuality hurts no one.
Of course, his rationale for his belief that the US should follow Biblical law the same way that Saudi Arabia follows Sharia Law is based on how “We take an oath to God to uphold the Constitution.”
Um. . .not exactly. The oath of President as written in the US Constitution reads “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” A person may say “and so help me God” if they choose. In fact, the Constitution specifically states that no religious test can be administered for anyone seeking an oath of office.
The last time I took an oath, I swore to “the Gods of my people,” which is a very ancient Celtic oath.
He also stated:
“And Article 1, Section 10 says in part, ‘no states shall make anything but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts.’ And right now we’re not doing that. So the state of Georgia is breaking the law. All the states are. And how can we expect the people of this state to obey the laws we pass if we’re not obeying the Constitution, if we’re breaking the law?”
Actually, he is only partially correct here. The Constitution does say that. In fact, this is what it says “No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.” The thing is, this Article does not actually refer to the Federal Government, but to the States. The states are not allowed to designate anything other than gold or silver coins be legal tender- but the Federal Government can. Franklin wants to have all state business conducted in only gold and silver.
There is a lot more about this man, who comes off as being nothing more than a real nut. In fact, he is little more than a complete and total crazy, and has gotten into trouble with his own party over the years for his insane views.
