DR. Launches on line postal Testing Kit for STD's
An online doctor service has launched the first commercial postal testing service for sexually transmitted infections, specifically for men who have sex with men.
The test pack, which retails at £89 deom DrThom.com, includes a urine test for genital chlamydia and genital gonorrhoea, a rectal swab for chlamydia and gonorrhoea and a throat swab for gonorrhoea.
Founded in 2002, Dr Thom was the first medical service to register with the government healthcare regulator, the Care Quality Commission. DrThom has managed over 150k patients online and remotely. DrThom provides private and NHS services.
Commenting on the launch Dr Alex Vass, the clinical lead for the service, told PinkPpaer.com: “Rates of sexually transmitted infections in gay men continue to rise and many find it inconvenient or time consuming to attend their local sexual health clinic for testing. This service offers an alternative and allows them to test themselves for common STI’s from the comfort of their home.
“Confidentiality can be important to many men and the packaging has been designed to be discreet – so someone who sees the package won't know what's inside or where it's come from. And nothing in the pack refers to the fact that this test is for men who have sex with men.”
