Tea Party Demands and gets:"The actor who is best known as the voice-over for the infamous Geico insurance commercials has recently been fired"
The actor who is best known as the voice-over for the infamous Geico insurance commercials has recently been fired for insulting remarks made to an organization with “Tea Party” ties. Lance Baxter left avoicemail for the Freedom Works organization where he said, “What (are) the percentages of people that are mentally retarded who work for the organization and are members of it?” He also asked the organization if they “had a plan on how to spin the eventual news of one of their members turning violent and killing someone.” In the message, he also left his phone number, easily tracking the insulting remarks back to Baxter.
Freedom Works wrote about Baxter’s voicemail on biggovernment.com, where Geico executives read about the incident and cut all ties with the actor, who also works under the name D.C. Douglas.
Baxter later posted a blog about the incident, writing that what he said on the message was stupid, but still feels that “Tea Party” organizations encourage hate speech against gays and minorities. In a statement, Baxter also says he was “upset by the recent gay and racial slurs slung by Tea Party members at Congressman Barney Frank and Representative John Lewis during the Health Care Reform Weekend.”
