New York City cops have a mystery on their hands with the death of Alejandro Bulaevsky, a young lighting designer found dead on the floor of his posh Manhattan apartment, with his hands bound behind him and his body encased in a latex suit and mask.

Police say there appeared to be no sign of a break-in and the latex outfit, according to the Daily News, might have been part of a sex game.

The 26-year-old was last seen alive Sunday night. After he failed to show up for work Monday morning worried relatives contacted the building superintendent, who entered the locked apartment Monday evening and discovered the gruesome scene.

Bulaevsky’s dead body was found lying in his luxury downtown apartment with his hands cuffed behind his back, according to police sources.

Police said Bulaevsky’s body bore no apparent signs of trauma, and nothing appeared to be missing from the apartment, according to the New York Daily News.

According to his business website, Bulaevsky’s lighting design projects included the Fuse Nightclub at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tenn. and suites in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The medical examiner was scheduled to perform an autopsy Tuesday.
