The epidemic of teenage suicides provoked by bullying is creating a cause for concern around the country. No matter how innocent or harsh a bully intends to be, their insensitive actions and words hurt. The degree to which bullies affect their victims is undeniable.
Recent events show that something must be done to put an end to bullying. And the best way to do just that, is to prevent it from happening in the first place.
While many states already have anti-bullying laws in place, New York is one state currently lacking this legislation. Having and enforcing these laws could be just what our youth need in order to realize deliberately hurting their peers -- verbally or physically -- is not acceptable behavior and will not be tolerated.
There is nothing anyone can do to take back the taunting that has already occurred, nor bring back the lives of those lost. People can, however, take action in their communities to eliminate bullying in the future. Refuse to take part in it AND report it.
Sign the petition aiming to pass anti-bullying legislation in New York.
