League Of Conservation Voters

The 2010 election season is in full swing, and LCV is gearing up to defeat politicians who continually side with corporate polluters at the expense of the environment. But we need your help!
We have already named the first four members of the Dirty Dozen, but we want YOU to vote for the People's Choice Dirty Dozen member.
Last year’s American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) passed out of the House of Representatives by just seven votes. That margin was too close for comfort, and a clear sign that we need to remove those who continue to stand in the way of our clean energy future.
This year’s Dirty Dozen nominees are some of Big Oil’s best buddies:
  • Pennsylvania Senate Candidate Pat Toomey (R-PA) - Toomey has parroted Big Oil’s misinformation on climate legislation while also supporting efforts to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Lifetime LCV Score: 11%.

  • Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN) – Bachmann not only voted against the ACES bill, but spread misinformation leading up to the vote, claiming that carbon dioxide, which contributes to global warming, is a harmless gas. Lifetime LCV Score: 3%.
  • Representative Bobby Bright (D-AL) – Bright is a freshman who voted against the ACES bill, and is currently working to prevent the EPA from regulating global warming pollution. Lifetime LCV Score: 36%.
  • Former Representative Tim Walberg (R-MI) – A veteran of LCV’s Dirty Dozen list, Walberg consistently voted against repealing subsidies to Big Oil and against increasing the use of clean energy. He’s back running for his old seat and challenging LCV-endorsed Congressman Mark Schauer.  Lifetime LCV Score: 3%.
  • Representative Dan Lungren (R-CA) – Lungren has repeatedly opposed incentives to boost clean energy production and protect our air and water, which includes voting against ACES last year. Lifetime LCV Score: 3%.
Being added to the LCV Dirty Dozen list is a big deal. Why? Because since 1996, LCV has defeated 49 out of 79 members of the Dirty Dozen.  LCV is determined to build on that record, and will pull out all the stops to defeat Big Oil’s best friends at the polls this November.
Help us decide who will be next. Please vote today, then spread the word!
