Sen. Ashburn Gets Jail, Fine for DUI

Roy Ashburn, the Republican California state senator with an antigay voting record who was pulled over for a DUI after attending a beauty pageant at a Sacramento gay club, pleaded no contest to driving under the influence of alcohol in Sacramento superior court Wednesday morning.

He was sentenced to three years of informal probation and 48 hours in county jail, though he was given one day's credit for the night of his arrest and will serve the remaining day on a work project, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Ashburn’s fine and other fees will reportedly run him up to $2,000.
