President Biden began hosting a virtual climate summit this morning with 40 world leaders. He announced that the U.S. will cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least half before this decade ends. For the second night in a row protesters took to the streets in Columbus, Ohio, where an officer shot and killed 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant during an altercation earlier this week. An investigation into her death is underway. Police body cam video shows her holding a knife. More than 1,700 protesters were arrested in Russia on Wednesday as tens of thousands of Alexei Navalny supporters marched in demonstrations across the country. Navalny has been on a three-week hunger strike in prison, where his physician said earlier this week he could die "at any minute" without the proper medical care. One day after a jury convicted former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on murder charges, the U.S. Justice Department launched an investigation into possible patterns of discrimination and excessive force at the city's police department. President Biden says 200 million COVID-19 shots have gone into Americans’ arms within the first 100 days of his presidency, hitting the goal he set. Biden also announced that employers that give their workers time off to get vaccinated would be eligible for a tax break. |
