WHAT you are about to see is a five-minute video with Prof. Richard Berrong discussing a new art book called A Little Gay History: Desire and Diversity Across the World, which reproduces important works of art from the ancient world to the present day, both Western and non-Western. Author R. B. Parkinson provides a brief description and commentary for each work. Prof. Berrong focuses upon a few of these works.
Richard Berrong is a professor of French at Kent State University in Ohio. A longtime contributor to The Gay & Lesbian Review, Berrong has written broadly about literature and art. He specializes in 19th-century French literature. His books include In Love with a Handsome Sailor: The Emergence of Gay Identity and the Novels of Pierre Loti.
