NY Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Wants Fed. Government To Let ALL GAY Couples Adopt
The incredible Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) took to Twitter this afternoon to expand on her decision to introduce the Every Child Deserves A Family Act (and let us know when she'll send it to Congress!). Details follow.
Right off the heels (Marc Jacobs, likely) of successfully fighting for DADT-repeal, New York's junior Senator has focused her sights on another gay rights initiative—the right for all same-sex couples in the country to adopt children.
Reports NY Daily News:
Between New York's same-sex marriage act and the repeal of the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, the momentum is there for the needed reform, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said.
"This legislation would open thousands of new foster and adoptive homes to children ensuring they are raised in loving families," Gillibrand said of her "Every Child Deserves a Family Act."
On Friday afternoon, Kirsten went into more details via her Twitter account.
On Monday, I'll intro the Every Child Deserves A Family Act to remove the barriers to#LGBT couples adopting children.
We must end discrimination against adoptive parents based on sexual orientation & gender identity and ensure more children have loving homes
The issue couldn't be of uptmost importance when it comes to American children living without families: 11 states currently ban the LGBT from adopting children.
