High School Swimmer, Sam Rejoins Swim Team&Blogs His Coming Out

1samblogger
Sam is a 16-year-old high school student who quit the swim team his sophomore season due to feelings of loneliness and inadequacy while he dealt with his sexuality. Sam is returning to the swim team, coming out of the closet and will be blogging all along the way. Details after the jump.
Inspired by another blog written by three high school gay athletes BradRobertBen, Sam decided to start Sam I Am. After only a week, Sam has already managed to say a lot:
"Whenever we put ourselves down, when we don’t feel like one of the guys, or we don’t feel good enough, we need to realize we are good enough. We are strong enough. We are athletic and talented and gifted enough. Being gay does not mean I am not as capable and adequate as every other guy. I let myself think that for too long and didn’t take chances that may have given me a bunch of friends and the support of a team. I am not going to make that mistake again, and I hope, whoever is reading this, that you don’t let negative thoughts and feelings stop you from achieving what you want either."
Sam told OutSports that he is aware that he could experience bullying after coming out to his teammates, but that he won't let it stop him, a message he hopes others will hear, too. Support Sam and his journey by visiting Sam I Am and post comments. OutSports notes that he especially wants to hear from other gay teens or athletes.
