Prop 8 Federal Judge Decided To Unseal Recordings of Trial

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A federal judge in San Francisco has decided to unseal video recordings of last year's landmark trial on the constitutionality of California's same-sex marriage ban.

Chief U.S. District Judge James Ware on Monday agreed with lawyers for two same-sex couples who sued to overturn Proposition 8 and with a coalition of news outlets that there is no reason to keep the recordings secret.

Ware says his order will take effect on Sept. 30 unless a higher court overrules him.

The religious and conservative groups that sponsored the voter-approved ban known as Proposition 8 had opposed having the videos made public.

They argued that after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the trial could not be broadcast, Ware's predecessor had assured them the recordings would be made only for his private use.

On Prop 8 the court decided to unseal recordings of the trial. Now everyone can see that proponents of Prop 8 and overturning gay marriage in California had NO Case. All They have is a discriminatory religious argument. adamfoxie*
