After18 Yrs Assemblyman Matthew Titone & Giosue Pugliese Married
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- After 18 years together, Assemblyman Matthew Titone and his partner, Giosue Pugliese, have married in Borough Hall, less than two months after same-sex marriage was legalized in New York.
"We are thrilled," said Titone (D-North Shore), the borough’s first openly gay lawmaker, who advocated for the legislation and was on hand when Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed it into law in June. "But for us it was not about the pomp and circumstance. For us it was truly about a piece of paper and the 1,300 rights that come with it."
Quipped Titone: "See, gay marriage, no earthquakes, no hurricanes, no flooding. Oh, wait — there were. Oh, well, there’ve been no locusts."
Titone, 50, and Pugliese, 36, a construction foreman, were married Friday by Supreme Court Justice Judith McMahon in her courtroom in Borough Hall in a late-afternoon ceremony.
About 20 friends and family were in attendance, including state Sen. Diane Savino (D-North Shore/Brooklyn), City Councilwoman Debi Rose (D-North Shore) and Assemblyman Michael Cusick (D-Mid-Island). Among those present was Ms. Savino’s boyfriend, state Sen. Jeff Klein (D-Bronx-Westchester).
