Bidet in a Bottle - A Handheld Backside Cleanser

In the US, merely mentioning the word bidet can elicit gales of laughter. In France? Not so much. Humorous videos aside (American bidet parody, cute Asian TV commerical), the potential use of a portable, handheld bidet is intriguing.

Dirk de Roos of the Netherlands is promoting such a device, called the Tjebbi. It squirts a fine steady, long-lasting stream of water using pressure created by the built-in hand pump. No batteries or other fuel are required. It is small and light enough to fit in a purse, briefcase or backpack. Far less water is used than conventional toilets, and it could reduce toilet paper waste because of the cleansing action of the pressured water. His product also appears well-suited for hiking and camping in remote areas, even for long car trips where pit stops aren’t readily available. Its use could also reduce toilet paper disposal in camping areas, and come in handy on long car or cycling trips.

For those with health problems, which make elimination both painful and a difficult chore, a portable bidet might offer some benefits.
