Jobs, left, unveils the Apple IIc computer with Apple Chief Executive John Sculley and co-founder Steve Wozniak. Jobs and Wozniak met when Jobs was in high school in Cupertino, Calif., and Wozniak was intermittently attending college. The two partnered up to make and sell machines that let users make free international phone calls. In 1976, they founded Apple in a Los Altos, Calif., garage.
Jobs presents his NExT workstation in San Francisco. After a long power struggle at Apple, he had resigned in 1985, at age 30, and started Next Computing. He also bought part of Lucasfilm and renamed it Pixar.
Jobs shows off his NeXTstation color computer at his company's Redwood City, Calif., facility in 1991. The same year, he and his wife, Laurene Powell, were married at Yosemite National Park by a Buddhist monk.
The industry was shocked when Jobs announced that the struggling Apple had forged an alliance with its sworn enemy, Microsoft. At the 1997 Macworld Expo trade show, Microsoft Chief Executive Bill Gates chimes in via satellite.
Jobs holds up the new iPod, showing an episode of hit television show "Desperate Housewives." Apple Computer Inc.'s momentum in 2005 seemed unstoppable as it launched one hit product after another: the iPod Shuffle, the Mac Mini, the iPod Nano, a video-playing iPod and TV shows for sale on its iTunes store.

90210 Michael Steger on a Q&A

uinterview
Q: Tell us about what you expect for your character this season. Where do you think he’s headed? - Question
A: He’s really involved in his dad’s production company. He legitimizes it. He gets to the point where his uncle threatens his livelihood. It leaves him in a panic where he doesn’t know what to do. He’s having a huge issue with getting his uncle out of his life.
Q: You are playing a character that is much younger than you are in real life. Tell us about the challenge of playing someone who is so much younger than you are. Question
A: Well, I think we all are playing characters that are younger than we are. So it’s kind of a mirror reality. We’ve all been in high school. We’ve all been in these situations. There’s not too much of a challenge whatsoever.
Q: You are playing a character of Middle Eastern descent, and you are not Middle Eastern. Is there anything you did to prepare for playing that role authentically? - Question
A: Well, I think the authentic part of the character is that he’s American raised. He was born in the States, but his parents were born in Iran. Kind of like my mother is Ecuadorian, but I’m first-generation American. I really connected with the character. We both have very similar backgrounds in the sense that both of our families are from overseas, but we ourselves are very Americanized. We have this interesting culture difference with our family versus being out in the world. Of course, I have a lot of friends who are from Iran. They told me a lot about what their culture is like. I was finding out how similar their culture is to mine.
Q: Did you grow up watching the original 90210 series? - Question
A: No, I was too active a kid to sit down and watch TV. I caught maybe a few episodes.
Q: How did you get into acting and how did you get onto 90210? - Question
A: I started acting in the seventh grade, and my parents had always let me go to auditions. I booked one guest starring role on a TV show called “V.R. Troopers” from back in the day, and my parents were like, "Okay that’s enough. You’ve had your taste of Hollywood. Now it’s time for school." So I did a lot of plays in junior high and high school, and as soon as I got my truck, I was able to drive myself to auditions in L.A. I didn’t get lucky until I started taking acting seriously. I went to college and did the whole five-year acting program. Then after I moved to L.A. my first big show was “The Winner,” which was Seth MacFarlane's first live action sitcom. I did a lot of guest starring on different TV shows. I started getting more and more work.
Q: Tell us about shooting your guest spot on “True Blood.” - Question
A: It was especially cool, because I am a big fan of the show. I feel like they have some of the best character actors on TV, and it’s not everyday that you can be on a show that you’re a fan of. I thought that was a really cool experience.
Q: Do you have any memories that stand out about the feeling on the set of 90210? - Question
A: Whenever there’s a lot of downtime, everybody just has a crazy good time. What can I tell you? It’s a crazy set, but we all get along really well. We are very lucky to have each other. We’ve been together since day one.

From Wall Street to Main Street: A Revolution?

By Lynda Waddington
It’s the 99 percent. Perhaps you’ve heard of them? They are the folks who did as they were asked, who followed the rules, who believed this really was a country where any Average Joe or Jane could make good. But as they peer over stacks of unpaid bills, commute to their second or third job and watch the influence of the most wealthy Americans grow and of everyday Americans diminish, they have gained a new perspective and can no longer sit silently.
“I am involved and this is personally important to me because I would like nothing more than to see a brighter future for my 8-year-old daughter. It’s not about me,” Eric Enders of Des Moines told The Iowa Independent.
“I think this nation has taken a serious turn for the worse. It is owned and controlled by the upper 1 to 2 percent of the corporate elite and Wall Street, if you will, who control much of the power you see in corporations themselves and the power elite.”
Enders said that when he is using the term “elite,” an example of what he is referring to is the current political will in Congress for corporate welfare to be paid for on the backs of the poor and middle-class, who make up the rest of the 98 to 99 percent of America.
He is one of thousands of Iowans expected to “occupy” the state at various sites over the next week. Thus far, events have been slated in the communities of Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Dubuque, Mason City, Cedar Falls and Fairfield, and attempts are underway to organize additional locations. (As we learn of new events, they are added to our Factbook calendar, which is also featured on our Facebook page.) Because the demonstrations aren’t sponsored by any existing organization or group, there is no one official office or voice speaking for the movement.
Participants of the events, which are patterned loosely after the ongoing “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrations in New York City, are broadly disenchanted and frustrated about economic inequality and corporate political influence and greed. A general statement considered a motto by most individuals who are involved is:
“The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%”
But, beyond that statement, specific views of the participants span the political spectrum, with some advocating generally for workers, some insistent on protections of Social Security and Medicare and others advocating for the elimination of the Federal Reserve.
“I do not align myself with any political party, [and feel] both are at fault and to blame for most of the serious problems we face, including the disappointments of President Obama,” Enders said. “No single person in office today can fix what is wrong.”
It is also a movement that is drawing interest from communities of faith. Kim Bobo, executive director of Chicago-based Interfaith Worker Justice, explains, “People of faith may not all agree with or even understand everything the Wall Street protestors are saying. But those protests are a teachable moment. They are giving congregations an opportunity to talk together about how we can help families hurt by this economy.”
All faith traditions, she said, affirm the value of a just economy that services all, not just the top one percent. The IWJ has developed a discussion guide appropriate for use in Christian congregations in relation to the Occupy movement, and is planning to release additional guides for use in congregations of other faiths.
Hugh Espey, executive director of Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, said he hopes this is a movement that continues “to spread like wildfire across the country.”
“Let’s hope it does. Let’s hope it’s history in the making. A mass movement of everyday people standing up and speaking out against the corrosive influence of big money in politics is exactly what needs to happen,” he wrote in an email to Iowa CCI members

OMG! Ryan Gosling Doesn't Understand His Sex Appeal,SeesHimself "Weird Looking"

Written by Instinct

gosling
Guess we will not be fighting over guys with Ryan Gosling! We don't share the same taste, it seems (his heterosexuality might also have a little something to do with it). The hunky actor may have risen to the top of the A-List: Hollywood over the past year, but he attributes his career beginnings to being a "weird looking" guy. Even more treacherous is the fact that Ryan actually thinks he is not good looking! Offensive! (Details follow)
gosling2
Gosling reveals his lack of taste when it comes to identifying gorgeous men in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times.
“I’m not that good looking. I think I’m a pretty weird-looking guy,” he says. “Every role I got up until The Notebook [in 2004] was the weirdo, freak, psychopath, nerd, outsider character guy. I think things have changed."
Yep, now Ryan is Hollywood's leading sex symbol (Crazy, Stupid Love, anyone?), but we like his humility. Nothing hotter than a sexy stud who doesn't understand their own appeal.

Robert Downey Jr. Could Revive Perry Mason..in the works

   Author: Katey Rich
Robert Downey Jr. Could Revive Perry Mason As A Warner Bros. Franchise image
He's about to have a second outing as the crime-solving, literature-spouting, under-ground brawling Sherlock Holmes, but Robert Downey Jr. is already looking into another way to start solving crimes. According to Variety, Warner Bros. is looking to relaunch the Perry Mason franchise, and Downey Jr. is thinking about being the guy to revive the famous defense attorney And he's not just interested as an actor either, as he and his wife Susan Downey would serve as producers, and the new script would be based on an original story that Downey cooked up with executive producer David Gambino.

For a lot of people, Perry Mason is a single character, as played by Raymond Burr on the 60s TV show. But the character actually started out in a series of novels by Erie Stanley Gardner, and was a radio series, several TV movies and six feature films before the 60s TV series ever got started. Even though Mason is a character, not unlike Sherlock Holmes, who's been through many iterations and can be endlessly adapted, it's obviously Burr's version of the character who Downey Jr. would be up against in making his interpretation his own.

Though Downey Jr. would obviously bring a modern spin to the character, they're planning to keep a lot of the familiar elements, including the early 1930s LA setting and supporting characters like secretary Della Street and the P.I. Paul Drake. Obviously the studio is aiming to make this a franchise, which is why it seems a little strange that Downey Jr. might want to take the role. Sure, he's perfect as a smart and capable guy you want to follow anywhere, but after saddling himself to commitments to Iron ManAvengers and Sherlock Holmessequels, he seemed to be actively avoiding franchise roles, dropping out of Sam Raimi's Oz: Great and Powerful as well as Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity. Maybe the homegrown LA setting of Perry Mason is what makes this possible?

Things seem to be in the works for now, so while we wait for confirmation, let us know in the comments if you want to see Downey Jr. step into the courtroom in Perry Mason's shoes.

  • Name: JOHNATHON RODRIGUEZ
  • Charge: BATTERY - TOUCH OR STRIKE ANOTHER AGAINST THEIR WILL
  • Residence:IMMOKALEE, FL
  • Age: 18
  • Occupation: No info found.
 — Three teenagers have been arrested following an attack on two gay men in Immokalee.
Jonathan Rodriguez, 18, of the 3500 block of Carson Lake Circle, Immokalee, was arrested Tuesday by Collier County Sheriff deputies at his home. He was charged with misdemeanor battery.
Two juveniles were also arrested, according to Natalie Felber, spokeswoman with the Collier County Sheriff's Office. The two were charged with misdemeanors, Felber said, but could not elaborate on the charges because they are juvelines.
One of the victims, Cirildo Soliz, 21, started using the social networking site Facebook to identify the men who attacked him. He told deputies he recognized Rodriguez as one of the attackers from his Facebook photo. The other victim, Manuel Galan, 27, later affirmed Soliz's claim.
Rodriguez's bond has been set at $1,000.
The victims told deputies they had been jumped by five men on Sept. 21 while walking down Carson Road near Eden Avenue in Immokalee, according to police reports.
Soliz and Galan said the assailants were yelling homophobic slurs as they punched, kicked and hit them.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office has investigated it as possible a hate crime, but the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has yet to officially name it as such.

New iphone...Tell me What’s new about it again?

The iPhone 5 was not announced today at the Apple press conference. In its place was the iPhone 4S, similar to the iPhone 4 already on the market except with a creepy function called Siri that lets you talk with it like it’s Hal from “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

If you’re like me and your iPhone dates back to when Obama had favorable approval ratings, it doesn’t matter—you’re going to get one anyway. You don’t really have a choice. Somehow the cycle of phone death matched up perfectly with this newest product launch—last week fully 41% of mobile phone users planning to get a new phone in the near future said they planned to get the new iPhone.
Having to settle for an iPhone 4S instead of the redesigned iPhone 5 may seem like a bit of a let down: surely next May Apple will release the iPhone 5, and you’ll be six months into your contract, hopelessly out of reach of the newest, coolest phone.
But before you get to feeling you’re on the losing end of this deal, there’s one department where you could win big: Sprint.
Whenever you get a new phone you usually end up signing a new contract in exchange for the phone company reducing the price of your phone. Whenever you’re signing a new contract, it’s a good idea to look around at what the competition is offering so you can get the best deal.
Sprint did something in order to convince Apple to let it carry the iPhone which the stock market thinks is very dumb but could be a big win for you as a consumer: They promised to buy 30.5 million iPhones from Apple over the next four years.
Sprint only has 32 million monthly subscribers right now (the rest are pre-paid subscribers). AsNewser points out this means Sprint needs to either double the number of its subscribers or convince all of its existing users to switch to iPhones, or some combination thereof. Whether you’re a current Sprint subscriber or a potential subscriber, this is good news for you—it means the company needs to scramble for your business.
Six months ago I never would have imagined myself saying this—but I think I’m switching to Sprint.

J. Edgar Hoover’s Fans Still Covering Up FBI Leader’s Gay Ways

FBI agents helped Clint Eastwood and Leonardo DiCaprio with an upcoming film about J. Edgar Hoover. The former intelligence chief’s cronies, however, did not.
By

For years J. Edgar Hoover ruled the Federal Bureau of Investigations with an iron glove, using his power to target communists, gays, black people and anyone else who he thought posed a “threat.” Outside the office, however, his glove was a different color: pink.
Sources for years have claimed that Hoover liked to wear women’s clothing and had a secret, sexual relationship with his right hand man, Clyde Tolson.
It’s only natural, then, that director Clint Eastwood would want to explore these rumors as he prepared his upcoming movie, ‘J. Edgar,’ which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the legendary law man.
As part of their research, Eastwood turned to the FBI itself, ‘USA Today’ reports. Though the agency did not come out and say Hoover was homosexual, they did provide Eastwood with what little information they had.
Assistant FBI Director Mike Kortan tells the paper that both Eastwood and DiCaprio asked about Hoover’s private life and that the agency told them of “vague rumors and fabrications,” but were sure to note that “there is no evidence in the historical record on this issue.”
“We provided information so that their story could be accurate,” said Kortan. “What they did with it, as with any production, has been entirely in their hands.”
While the FBI, not known for its transparency, let the Hollywood icons go their own way, Hoover’s supporters — yes, people still support a man known for creating false panic to sustain his power — tried to stonewall any portrayal of their icon as lavender. The Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI made clear to Eastwood that they were displeased with any potential man-on-man action in the flick, as did the folks at the J. Edgar Hoover Foundation.
“There is no basis in fact for such a portrayal of Mr. Hoover,” wrote that group’s chairman, William Branon. “It would be a grave injustice and monumental distortion to proceed with such a depiction based on a completely unfounded and spurious assertion.”
No, there are no pictures of Hoover and Tolson smooching, canoodling or coming out of a gay bar, but it’s pretty common knowledge that the men did indeed have a more-than-platonic relationship: their contemporaries even referred to the duo as “J. Edna and Mother Tolson.”
The J. Edgar Hoover Foundation claims to be “committed to preserving an important legacy” and a “way of life based on the standards which J. Edgar Hoover believed in and embodied in his own life.” They use the adjectives “decency,” “integrity” and “justice” to describe Hoover’s worldview. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Hoover often bent the truth to suit his purposes, including when it came to his private life, and was often more of a national plight than protagonist. He created a culture of national and personal obfuscation, one that his cronies appear prepared to defend even to this day, nearly forty years after their hero died.
Hoover’s allies are perpetuating a legacy, yes, but not one of valor and patriotism. They are upholding a tradition of shame and secrecy, the same negative culture that allowed Hoover to specifically target gays, a population he wanted to suppress as much as he suppressed himself, and one that allows anti-gay activists today to do the same.

Colleges Now Letting Students Major in LGTB Studies

rainbow american flag
San Diego State University will begin offering an undergraduate degree in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender studies next year.
School officials say SDSU will become only the second college in the nation to offer a major in the field.
“It’s definitely a growing area of scholarship and is taken very seriously, especially at the graduate level,” said Jennifer Ruark, a deputy managing editor at the Chronicle of Higher Education, who has tracked the evolution of LGBT studies.
“At many places, these classes are part of the gender studies or women’s studies majors at the undergraduate level.”
SDSU has offered a minor in LGBT studies since 2009.
The university received approval late last week from the Chancellor’s Office of the California State University system to offer the major. It will begin accepting students into the program in spring 2012.
“We had about 30 students minoring in LGBT studies every year,” said Esther Rothblum, professor of women’s studies and the LGBT studies academic adviser. “We had so many courses on LGBT issues in so many departments, a group of us got together to put together a major.”
The only other institution of higher education in the nation to offer such a major, according to Rothblum, is Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y. The school has offered the major for a little more than a decade, according to Susan Henking, a professor of religious studies and co-chair of LGBT studies at Hobart and William Smith.
“I congratulate San Diego State,” Henking said. “We have been studying what it means to be human, in different ways, for a long time. This is just another way to study what makes us who we are, how we care for each other, how we care for our families.”
Ruark said some state-funded institutions efforts to expand LGBT studies have faced resistance from some state legislators.
Calls to several San Diego County legislators were not returned Tuesday. Assemblyman Martin Garrick, R-Carlsbad, issued a written statement in response to a reporter’s call.
“I question the decisions to expand programs and departments at a time when our education system is dealing with cutbacks. There are already thousands of students who are struggling to get the classes they need to fulfill the requirements for their degrees,” the statement said. “Our focus should be on retaining programs and classes that prepare students for the workforce.”
The Rev. Chris Clark, pastor of East Clairemont Southern Baptist Church, objected to the new major.
“I haven’t agreed with a lot of what our state has been doing to use taxpayer funds to advocate this particular agenda. It sounds very similar to Senate Bill 48,” he said, referring to the recently enacted law that requires K-12 textbooks and other instructional materials to include the contributions of “lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.”
The law also bans materials that “contain any matter reflecting adversely upon persons on the basis (of) sexual identity.”
“It’s always two-pronged,” Clark said. “First is the part normalizing the behavior, but then there’s the part that tries to eliminate any kind of criticism. My my first reaction is it’s going to be the Christian groups on campus in the cross hairs.”
Just over a year ago, SDSU was recognized as one of the 20 best colleges in the country for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students by Campus Pride, a nonprofit group focused on making college campuses safer and more inviting for LGBT students.
“San Diego State has always been a progressive-minded institution,” said Shane Windmeyer, executive director of Campus Pride.
“For a long time, (universities) have had LGBT classes,” he said, “but for some students — straight or gay — having a major would be very attractive.”
Rothblum, the SDSU professor, said adding the major put no extra burden on the university which, like all public higher education institutions in California, is dealing with a sharp reduction in state funding.
“The fabulous thing about this is isn’t costing the university a dollar,” she said. “The classes and the faculty are all there.”
LGBT-themed courses are taught in various departments, including English, history, women’s studies and linguistics, she said.
Rothblum said that the major will be a good background for students aspiring to medical for law schools or hoping to work in the corporate or nonprofit worlds.
“Everybody wants employees these days who have a focus on diversity,” she said.
Ma Rae Aurea, who has completed most of her requirements for the LGBT minor at SDSU, said she is considering switching from her biology/zoology major or perhaps pursuing a double major.
“I just find LGBT studies more interesting,” said the 22-year-old. “I think there should be more awareness going on for the (LGBT) community. And since it’s a pioneer program, I’d like to be a part of it.
“The only thing that gives me pause is the career path. Other than research, I’m not really sure what I would do with it.”
Richard Muir, on the other hand, said adding the LGBT degree to his theater major is perfect for his planned career as a marriage and family counselor.
“After graduate school,” said the 33-year-old, “I’d love to specialize in LGBT couples counseling around parenting.”
