A Philadelphia Phillies fan went viral for chasing down and taking away a home-run ball from a child after confronting the boy’s father during Friday night’s game against the Miami Marlins.

The incident occurred after Phillies outfielder Harrison Bader crushed a home run into left field. As the ball hit the bleachers and rolled around, four fans scrambled for it. One man retrieved the ball and returned to his seat, placing it in his son’s glove with an embrace.

Then, things took a turn.

A woman who had been in the scrum, also wearing Phillies gear, confronted the man as he held his son, pointing to the area where the frenzy occurred. After a verbal exchange, the woman appeared to demand that the father give the ball to her. The visibly exasperated father acquiesced, taking the ball out of his son’s glove and handing it to the woman as other fans in the section watched and filmed the incident, which quickly started to spread on social media

However, the staff at LoanDepot Park wanted to make things right. Later in the game, a stadium employee gifted the young boy and his sister a goody bag full of merchandise, which was met with cheers from other fans in the section.

The gesture of goodwill was captured on the Marlins’ broadcast.

“See, this is good stuff. Good things happen to good people,” said Marlins broadcaster Kyle Sielaff. “Dad was doing a real good job holding it in, because he was not happy with that woman — and neither was I.”

The Phillies also chipped in. After the game, the team set up a meet-and-greet with Bader, who gifted the fan a signed bat.

The Phillies defeated the Marlins 9-3 in the series opener.
