ðŸ’ªGermany's parliament approved on Feb. 2 the country's budget for this year, including 7.6 billion euros ($8.2 billion) in military assistance for Kyiv.

Initially criticized for its sluggish delivery of military aid to Ukraine following the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Germany has become the second-largest provider of military equipment after the U.S.

The budget calls for a total spending of 476.8 billion euros ($515 billion). The defense budget for 2024 is set at 52 billion euros ($56 billion), in addition to 19 billion euros ($20.5 billion) from the special fund for the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr).

The proposal was supported by 388 lawmakers in the Bundestag, the lower chamber of the parliament, with 279 voting against it. It was passed by the upper chamber, the Bundesrat, soon after.

"I welcome the German Bundestag's approval of 7.6 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine in the 2024 budget. I appreciate that our agreements with (Chancellor Olaf Scholz) are being implemented," President Volodymyr Zelensky said on the social media platform X.

"My special thanks to Bundesrat and 16 lands for the important political resolution in support of Ukraine as Russia's full-scale invasion approaches the two-year mark."

Germany contrary to her past behavior decides is best to stick by Ukraine. Germany is in a special situation when choosing her bills from WW2 and her desire to be a financially stable country. For that, she gave up militarizing because she trusted the US to come to the rescue and after NATO was formed in 1949 she had Article 5 under her belt. When the USSR was dissolved she figured that strong ties with Russia, particularly oil and gas would make her more stable. Germany has become an economic power engine that all others need to deal with. But her ties with Russia were a mistake and hopefully, she has seen the light. I think Germany forgot what General Patton said:

" and from what I have seen of them, I have no particular desire to understand them, except to ascertain how much lead or iron it takes to kill them. In addition to his other Asiatic characteristics, the Russian has no regard for human life and is an all-out son of bitch, barbarian, and chronic drunk.” (Google)

He felt we fought and invaded the wrong country. How I understand that Patton used to exaggerate most things and by saying we fought the wrong country he meant it but that was not to say not to fight the Nazis but to fight the Russians and defeat them and we could get rid of the nazis after. I don't if that would have been better but what I know was wrong was for Germany to get very close to Russia like she could be NATO, mainly formed because of the USSR, and go dancing with Putin on weekends.

Now that is history because Germany recently decided to go full force for Ukraine. Maybe is clear now that Ukraine has won, all it needs now is to get her territories back including Crimea, and get reparations.

As for Putin, he is just an old billionaire made by stealing from his countryman. Not smart but only conniving. He speaks and walks to what he is, an uneducated bully that a drunk President in Russia made him president. Only a drunk could pick such a schizophrenic idiot.

As for another friend of Ukraine, Poland who learnt the lessons of WW2. They support a proposal for EU member states to create a fund to provide Ukraine with 20 billion euros ($21.5 billion) in military aid in the next four years, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told reporters in Brussels on Feb. 3.

EU foreign ministers are still discussing establishing a dedicated fund for Ukraine within the European Peace Facility, used to reimburse member states' expenses on military aid to other countries.

The plan, suggested by the EU's top diplomat Josep Borrell in July last year, has met resistance from some member states wary of committing large sums years in advance. The EU is reportedly considering various ways to reform the fund to achieve unilateral approval.

"There was an agreement on the civilian side, 50 billion euros - excellent news. But we still have to decide how to implement our military support, both bilaterally and through the European Peace Facility," Borrell said ahead of an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers on Feb. 3.

After months of delay, all 27 leaders of EU member states agreed on Feb. 1 to allocate an additional 50 billion euros ($54 billion) in financial support package for Ukraine within the EU budget.

According to Borrell, the EU has provided Ukraine with 28 billion euros ($30.2 billion) in defense aid to help the country repel Russia's full-scale invasion.

Putin knows the US has not stopped helping Ukraine, even with the war in Israel and now Iran backing Huthis. As for Congress, the money earmarked for Ukraaine is tied up with the money to pay US debts and without it, this country will default. That won't happen. A bunch of Maga Ttrumpies, with narrow votes in the House and no control of the Senate nor the white house, will have to negotiate. Eventually, people that do harm just for the hell of it, get tired of it when they see they can't get away with it. So let Putin not make another mistake. It seems his life is been full of mistakes. He could have become a decorated officer in the Russian Army with the power to steal and live comfortably like Russians do.
