Detention Centers for Gays in Chechnya are being Reported Since Last Yr

According to the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, Chechen authorities have set up a series of camps or prisons where gay men have been killed or tortured before being made to leave the republic. 
Last week it was reported that the authorities in Grozny killed three gay men and imprisoned as many as 100 more on account of their sexuality. 
Some men have escaped the region, and have told reporters that they were beaten into revealing the identities of others in the LGBT community. Another said he was forced to pay large bribes to police in order to remain free and alive. 
According to Human Rights Watch: “a brutal campaign against LGBT people has been sweeping though Chechnya”. 
Amnesty International added; “We can only call on the Russian authorities to investigate the allegations. Homosexuals in Chechnya are treated very harshly and prosecuted daily”.
Campaigners say groups of as many as 40 men are being held in the same room, beaten and electrocuted. 
Amnesty International has launched a petition for the Chechen government to “Stop abducting and killing gay men in Chechnya”, which has been signed over 10,000 times.
In response to the allegations, a Chechen official denied LGBT people exist in the region. 
“You cannot arrest or repress people who just don’t exist in the republic. If there were such people in Chechnya, the law-enforcement organs wouldn’t need to have anything to do with them because their relatives would send them somewhere from where there is no returning”, a spokesperson told Interfax.
