Neil Patrick Harris Glad He Came Out, Good for his Career

While coming out as gay can be daunting for an actor, Neil Patrick Harris says it was a positive experience for him.
“Once all the cards were on the table, I got more opportunities than ever,” NPH told Rolling Stone magazine, which features the actor on its latest cover. “Some actors don’t get hired because you can’t look into their soul and see what they’re like, because they’re kept guarded.”
The actor, 40, said he has always tried to shy away from seeming too effeminate, but in his new role in Broadway’s “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” where he plays the starring role as a German trans rocker — he’s embracing (and enjoying) it.
“I have always been highly aware of how I was presenting myself,” he said. “Which, now that I’m playing overtly feminine and loving it, is kind of a stupid concern.”
The former “How I Met Your Mother” star also credited his hilarious role in “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle” as the turning point in his career.
“Who knew that three days on a funny stoner comedy would alter my track record the way it did?” he said.
