Orlando Cruz, This Gay Puerto Rican Boxer is Proud and He shows it on His Trunks and Gloves

Out Olympians can’t wear anything that might be seen as endorsing gay rights at the Winter Games, but gay boxer Orlando Cruz will enter the ring Saturday night in the gayest outfit the sport has ever seen.
Cruz, who came out in 2012, , who became the first openly gay boxer when he came out in 2012, will go into his fight for the featherweight world title wearing rainbow-colored shorts and pink gloves, according to will wear rainbow shorts and pink boxing gloves  in his matchup against Orlando Salido, a bid for the vacant WBO featherweight belt.

The rainbow garb is in honor of the LGBT community, while the pink gloves representing Breast Cancer Awareness Month (though we think they’re pretty fabulously gay, too.)
Cruz recently told Yahoo’s Kevin Iole that being in the boxing ring was not as scary as being open with his sexuality: “Boxing is a macho sport, everyone yelling gay slurs all the time. I was scared. I was worried about other boxers. I was worried about the fans. I would cry many, many nights thinking about it.”
Whether he wins the bout with Salido or not, Cruz is clear a champ. And a lucky one at that—he’s marrying Jose Manuel in New York on November 16.
