  • Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is apologizing for comparing same-sex marriage to the marriage of a brother and sister during a Friday television interview, angering gay-rights groups.
  • The Republican was asked about a statement by state lawyers in a recent court filing that likened same-sex couples to 12-year-olds who wished to wed but couldn't under Pennsylvania law.
  • "It was an inappropriate analogy, you know," Corbett told the anchor on WHP-TV in Harrisburg.
  • "I think a much better analogy would have been brother and sister, don't you?" he added, with a smile.

  • His remarks drew swift condemnation, with Ted Martin of Equality Pennsylvania calling them "shocking and hurtful."

  • "As poll after poll continues to affirm that the majority of Pennsylvanians support allowing same-sex couples to share in the freedom to marry — Gov. Corbett’s comments aren’t simply offensive; they’re out of touch," Martin said in a statement.
  • "We urge Gov. Corbett to immediately apologize for his irresponsible remarks. And we invite him to participate in a conversation with same-sex couples to talk about why marriage matters to all Pennsylvania families.”
  • Hours after the interview aired, Corbett issued a written statement: "My words were not intended to offend anyone. If they did, I apologize."
  • He said he was just trying to explain the law.
  • "I explained that current Pennsylvania statute delineates categories of individuals unable to obtain a marriage license," his statement said.
  • "As an example, I cited siblings as one such category, which is clearly defined in state law. My intent was to provide an example of these categories.

Defending Pennsylvania’s law effectively banning same-sex marriage against a legal challenge in federal court will fall to Gov. Tom Corbett.
Pennsylvania’s elected attorney general, Kathleen Kane, said Thursday that she will not defend the law.
Kane is a supporter of same-sex marriage; Corbett is an opponent. Both were named in a lawsuit filed in federal court Tuesday seeking to overturn the law and legalize same-sex marriage in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania law states it’s the attorney general’s duty to defend the constitutionality of state laws.
But the constitution also states the attorney general may allow lawyers for the governor’s office or agencies to defend a lawsuit if it’s more efficient or in the state’s best interests.
Corbett’s office isn’t commenting on the lawsuit.
Pennsylvania General Counsel James D. Schultz released this statement about Kane’s announcement:
“We are surprised that the Attorney General, contrary to her constitutional duty under the Commonwealth Attorneys Act, has decided not to defend a Pennsylvania statute lawfully enacted by the General Assembly, merely because of her personal beliefs.
“We have not received any formal notification of Attorney General Kane’s decision. While we await that notification and accompanying legal justification, we will continue to review the lawsuit filed by the ACLU.”
Corbett has been trying to privatize the lottery by giving it to an English company—and trying to privatize liquor.  This would mean the loss of a lot of government jobs that pay almost $15 an hour with benefits, the private sellers would only pay their people minimum wage.  Corbett is very Anti-America.  Corbett has also called Pregnant women and Breast Cancer Patients Moochers:
“What I hear all the time coming out of the administration in Washington is that it’s the working poor [who benefit from Medicaid],” Corbett told WTAE, a Pennsylvania local ABC affiliate, on Saturday. “Yes it is working, but you should be investing five, ten dollars in co-pay to understand that you go to to the hospital or the doctors, you just can’t keep going and going and going and think everything is going to be covered. You have to know that you have some interest in what’s going on.”
Tom Corbett is literally the devil, he screws everybody over—equally.  Five or ten dollars could mean the difference between going hungry and going to the Doctor.
