London Taxi Driver Suspended Over Kicking Out Gay Couple Out of Car

Homophobia claims: The couple said they were thrown out for being gay

A cab driver has been suspended after claims he kicked a gay couple out of his taxi for holding hands
Liam Kelly said he got in the Addison Lee cab with his boyfriend after leaving the G-A-Y bar in Soho last night.
He said he was told to ‘get out’ just moments later by the driver, who then allegedly called the pair ‘dirty’.
Mr Kelly posted the license plate number of the car online following the incident and complained to the private hire firm via his Twitter account.
"Just been ejected from an @AddisonLeeCabs taxi for being gay.
"Thanks for the homophobic treatment,’ he wrote.
"My BF and I got into a taxi from G-A-Y Late. Started holding hands and were told to get out, and called dirty.’
He later tweeted: ‘Thank you to everyone for your messages of support, they mean a lot.
"We’re home now, after a very nice black taxi journey.’
Addison Lee said it ‘does not tolerate any form of discrimination’ and launched an immediate investigation.
The firm has been using its Twitter account to respond to angry reaction on the social networking site.
In a press statement the firm said: "We are aware of an incident involving an Addison Lee vehicle in London last night."
"This incident is being investigated thoroughly, and the driver has been suspended from duty while the investigation takes place.
"We are also in contact with the customer to understand more about what happened.
"We pride ourselves in delivering the highest possible level of professional service, and we take matters like this very seriously.”
