Police Comm Does Not Know Why PD Shot an Unarmed Man

  Noel Polanco

Asked about the NYPD shooting last week of unarmed driver Noel Polanco on the Grand Central Parkway, Commissioner Ray Kelly punted today, the Post reports. "It will require what I believe to be a grand jury investigation to determine precisely what happened there," Kelly said, following days of outrage from the family of the slain 22-year-old National Guardsman. The early morning shooting occurred Thursday after Polanco was pulled over for driving erratically. While initial reportshad anonymous police sources claiming Polanco may have been reaching for the "small power drill" on the car floor as officers approached, a passenger in the car said Polanco's hands never left the steering wheel. Queens District Attorney Richard Brown is looking into it.
