Gregory (Scotland Yard detective): “Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?”
Holmes: “To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time.”
Gregory: “The dog did nothing in the night-time.”
Holmes: “That was the curious incident.”
The fact that the dog did not bark when you would expect it to do so while a horse was stolen led Homes to the conclusion that the evildoer was a not a stranger to the dog, but someone the dog recognized and thus would not cause him to bark. Holmes drew a conclusion from a fact (barking) that did not occur, which can be referred to as a “negative fact,” or for the purpose of this discussion, an expected fact absent from the record.
The 1892 book, the Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is a collection of short stories. One of the stories is “Silver Blaze,”a mystery about the disappearance of a famous racehorse the night before a race and the murder of the horse’s trainer. Sherlock Homes solves the mystery in part by recognizing that no one he spoke to in his investigation remarked that they had heard barking from the watchdog during the night.
Sherlock Holmes fans will instantly recognize the expression, “the dog that didn’t bark,” coming from the story, “The Adventure of Silver Blaze.” Holmes realized the stable dog’s silence proves the culprit was someone the dog knew — leading to the solution of the case.
In a recently released e-mail provided to the House of Representatives, Jeffrey Epstein referred to Donald Trump as “the dog that hasn’t barked” because Trump’s name had not surfaced publicly in connection with Epstein’s trafficking network, despite Epstein claiming that Trump had spent hours with one of his victims. In April 2011, Epstein wrote to Maxwell:
“I want you to realize that the dog that hasn’t barked is Trump. [Victim] spent hours at my house with him, he has never once been mentioned.”
Maxwell replied:
“I have been thinking about that.”
The victim’s name was redacted in the released documents, but was later revealed to be Virginia Guiffre, who committed suicide. Her family described her as a lifelong survivor of sexual abuse and trafficking who had dedicated her life to advocacy. She had described being trafficked to Prince Andrew and others. Giuffre said she had never been sexually abused by Donald Trump and did not believe he was involved in Epstein’s crimes.
Several Republicans, including White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, argue that the failure of Democrats to release Guiffre’s name meant they didn’t want her denials of Trump’s involvement in sex crimes to be part of the story.
Adam Gonzalez: The Dog was Trump. Won't bark, won't pay up. Epstein called a friend in west Europe and asked him to contact Lavrov and ask him to call Epstein. Lavrov Did call Epstein. Epstein was making sure the dog barked.
Trump never pays his debts. This is not hear say but a fact of everyone who has done work for him in personal matters. It seems to me Trump did not want to pay up to Epstein and Epstein turned him in to his opponent the Dictator President of Russia. What a Play! Putin found out about this wonderful news from Lavrov his no 1 in International affairs. This also made Trump be very cocky particularly after Trump won. Putin is had Trump in his pockets since then. Everyone on the list had paid up (barked because they were dogs)and had been blackmailed except the cheap one.But Trump resisted because that is Trump. Cheap with his money loose with others.
I'll leave the rest if there is a rest to your common sense.
