Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. left even a right-wing Fox host stunned with his wild declaration about waning testosterone levels in American teenagers.
During an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime, Kennedy spoke about his efforts to eliminate food dyes and said one of the consequences of having them in our food is that “a teenager today, an American teenager has less testosterone than a 68-year-old man.”
Supreme Court could let RFK decide whether your insurance company covers PrEP
A company wanted to stop covering PrEP because it “facilitates homosexual behavior.” They could upend preventative care for everyone now.
Watters was so shocked he needed Kennedy to repeat the claim, which he did not back up with any evidence.
“Wait, wait, a— wait, an American teenager has less testosterone than a 60-year-old man?” Watters asked, looking skeptical.
“That’s right,” Kennedy replied, “because the testosterone levels have dropped 50% from historic levels. And you know — and that is a problem, and it’s an existential problem. But it’s only — that is only when we have obesity that is off the charts.”
Throughout the interaction, Watters looks like he is trying desperately to hold back from sharing his thoughts on the outlandishness of Kennedy’s claim. It’s saying a lot, considering the anti-LGBTQ+ Watters once claimed people were starting to identify as seasons.
A 2022 study in the Human Reproduction Update journal found that sperm counts in people worldwide have dropped more than 50% over the past 50 years, but some experts disputed the findings since the way sperm is counted has changed dramatically throughout the decades.
Regardless, it’s not clear that an overall drop in sperm count among the global population would result in teenagers having lower sperm counts than older adults.
Folks on social media brutally mocked Kennedy’s claim, with many questioning how the secretary could possibly have this kind of private information about teenagers. Others pointed out the hypocrisy of Republicans, who accuse liberals of being obsessed with children’s genitals by supporting trans youth.
One X user wrote: “RFK Jr. is out here worried about young boys’ testosterone and sperm counts… It’s wild how everything conservatives say about liberals always ends up being more true about themselves.”
