"Uwadiae would then demand sex or money from the men in exchange for the deletion of the images from social media. In some cases, Uwadiae urged victims to make damaging statements publicly, such as admissions of being racist.
"Pay me $200 and I won't post it (sic) pics, vids, number, and name online," Uwadiawe alleged texted one of his first victims. The next day, he demanded the money again and included a link to a post on Male General, a blog and messaging site marketed to gay men. The post included the victim's name, city of residence, Instagram handle, and two videos showing the man engaging in sex acts which had been previously recorded"
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A Columbus man has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for cyberstalking, extorting and stealing the identities of victims across multiple states.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says that 29-year-ol Omoruyi Uwadiae was sentenced on Tuesday.
For several months in 2019, court documents reveal that Uwadiae targeted gay and bisexual men, obtaining sexually explicit photographs and videos from potential victims.
Uwadiae then threatened to distribute the explicit material widely on the internet and specifically to victims’ friends, family members, employers and others. He demanded money from some victims, while from others, he demanded they meet him, have sex with him or make damaging admissions, such as admitting they were racist.
On multiple occasions, Uwadiae followed through with his threats.
Victims had not publicly disclosed their sexual orientation, which Uwadiae’s actions revealed against their wishes. He also used victims’ identifications to create false accounts on social media, posting their personal information and explicit images online.
Uwadiae targeted young gay men on Grindr and other online sites, obtaining their sexually explicit photographs and videos consensually before using them to extort. In some cases, he posted their nude images on websites without their consent, demanding money or other things of value to remove the images.
One victim was an OSU student, and another victim was a minor at the time of Uwadiae’s crimes.
Initially, the juvenile victim told Uwadiae he was 18 years old, but he was actually 17. After Uwadiae began distributing explicit images of the victim, the victim’s family informed Uwadiae of his true age, which Uwadiae acknowledged. Despite knowing the victim was a minor, Uwadiae continued to distribute sexually explicit images, sending them to the victim’s mother and others, and creating a publicly viewable Facebook page with the explicit images.
Uwadiae was charged in the Southern District of Ohio in April and pleaded guilty in May to 22 counts, including cyberstalking, making interstate communications with the intent to extort, and seven counts of unlawfully using a means of identification.
