Former Australia’s Next Top Model judge and Sydney Mardi Gras TV host Charlotte Dawsonhas been found dead inside her Woolloomooloo apartment.
The Sydney Morning Herald broke the sad news this afternoon, saying she was found by a security guard this morning. The report shared lifeline’s phone number – 13 11 14.
New Zealand-born Dawson, 47, may well be remembered as a socialite who was “the life and soul of any party,” but she had also in recent years spoken about her battles with depression.
Recently she’s been the face of anti-bullying campaigns targeting what she called online media “trolls”, work which had continued to occupy her this week.
Dawson twice hosted Foxtel’s live Sydney Mardi Gras parade night coverage back in 2009 and 2010. She’s been a long-time public advocate for LGBTI causes, including marriage equality and measures to raise awareness of anti-gay schoolyard bullying.
Hearing the news today, Community Brave Foundation founder Rami Mandow pays tribute to Dawson, giving thanks for her generous support of his group’s work.
“RIP Charlotte Dawson,” he writes. “You were an amazing advocate against bullying. You are and always will be an amazing person.”
