'Jaime llevame a los valles" James take me to the piers
It was 10:30 at night. A brisk winter night in New York City. The yellow cab stopped at First Avenue and StMarks Place (8th Street).
The young Puerto Rican driver, looking more Italian than hispanic, driving a new Checker that behave more like a truck with a volks engine than a cab that would hold at time 8 people if you crammed them good. But only if they wanted. You know a big group going to The Rock on 6th and 53rd or The Lincoln center and they just wanted to stay together, even if they sat on top of each other. Can't blame them....no body knows when the next available cab would come along and they wanted to be on time for the show. Turning 18 the past spring and now winter time he is got a job working the night shift at a NYC Cab Company. just 18 years old with a brand new blue laminated Hack. "I hate this job" he thought, "But need to wait until Im called for civil service. After all I had a 92 on the Patrolmen's Test, took the physical, now waiting for the call" Which he did not planned to get anytime soon. The city was in a mess of a fiscal crisis.
He picked up the tall man dressed all in black. Black jeans..."No wait..those are leather pants not jeans" He thought. Leather shirt, leather jacket and a scarf covering most of his face.
He entered the cab briskly and in a voice that resembled a banker that is giving you advise on buying Life Insurance or some other serious transaction."Twenty first and West side by the pier." That's an easy one, the driver thought. Not getting lost here like he did with that poor lady going from 14 street to 39 and Park. What a hellish ride. On this one, he thought, I can cut right through 21 since it goes west and taken straight to the west side. A good tip, Im sure.
When we arrived, truly enough a good tip. Now as the driver finalizes his entry on his entry sheet, he notices where he is parked. It's a bar with no name, motorbikes parked outside, and guys in leather outside smoking and talking what seems very lively conversations. All guys no girls.. Ohhh, this is a homosexual bar the driver tells himself.
I puts his checker in Drive and presses as hard as he could, he presses the breaks paralysed at the moment.
>>>This is an except from Adamfoxies memoirs, "Jaime Llevame a los valles."
