Should shaming gay, bi, straight men be the job of NYPD?
I think this is not preventing crime as it might affect anybody commuting and using Amtrak. Pickpocketing, assaults does affect those commuting and using the trains.
Cruising, manly by straight or gay men is not something that hurts no one. It is something done to ????????, I don't know why is done except to placate some religious homosexual commanding officer, including a mayor who turns out to be a lawbreaker and if it wasn't for Tump's pardon will probably be in jail already,
You fill that in for me but don't see any positive results but negatives are clear from the expense to possibly affecting lives of closeted or bisexual males for only the reason of homophobia. Two hundred arrests in three months seems like a lot and out of proportions particularly the way they do it and how wide the net is set.
So if you are a man using the facility it makes it against the law to look at another man. The way they carry these arrests is not receiving or giving an invitation to go to a stall or anywhere. Yes it happens but most arrests are done when a good looking younger cop sets a trap, which to me is entrapment and for those who dare fight the arrest entrapment will be the major defense. Ive heard stories of entrapment that Im sure will make most men tax payers to clinch and say,
"but that does not look right, not legal" And many of the arrests if fought will be dismissed but the police are betting the men will be shamed into pleading guilty and that's my main reason to opposing this waste of money and manpower. Shaming men should not be the job of the NYPD.
Out of 200 a portion will be straight men caught in the wrong stall being patrol by an undercover cutie or completely innocent of the charges (Lewd behavior or loitering)Just it would happen if you set a wide net in a particular part of the ocean. You will get all types and so is true with this kind of net. There will be straight or gay men that were there just to relief themselves.
New York City police have arrested almost 200 men since June in a crackdown on gay cruising at Penn Station. According to reports, the public bathroom near the Eighth Avenue and 31st Street entrance has become a regular meeting place for users of hookup apps like Sniffies.
Gothamist, a non-profit newsroom, says that the Amtrak Police Department has deployed undercover officers into the toilets, where they hide in stalls or pretend to use urinals while waiting to arrest people on charges of public lewdness or indecent exposure. The crackdown reportedly comes following complaints made by members of the public. In the first five months of this year, just 12 people were arrested for public lewdness in and around Penn Station, a number which has skyrocketed since then.
Amtrak Deputy Police Chief Martin Conway stated, “Naturally, we are going to address the conditions. We continue to patrol the restrooms and if and when we find any criminal activity, we do make arrests.”
31-year-old healthcare worker David was mistakenly detained for using the toilet while wearing a rainbow wristband. He told The City, “I was never arrested in my life. It was traumatising.” He was later released without charge.
Conway also confirmed that around 20 of the 200 men arrested had Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “detainers” and were taken into custody for deportation proceedings.
In response to the crackdown on cruising, the Sniffies app features an open chat room for New York Penn Station, where anonymous users have been logging when officers are spotted monitoring the bathroom. Some people have been suggesting alternative locations for hookups, including the toilets at the LIRR concourse or in the Moynihan Train Hall, the latter of which is not owned by Amtrak.
