True Blood’s Joe Manganiello “ The Country Needs to Wake Up” on Gay Rights

True Blood ’s Joe Manganiello is a sweet and sexy werewolf (and stripper), but now he’s given us another reason to love him.

Last week, Joe not only presented his friend, Magic Mike co-star Matt Bomer, with an “Inspiration Award” at the 8th Annual Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network’s (GLSEN) Awards, but he also delivered a heartfelt speech about gay rights.

“You are the example that the rest of our country needs to wake up and see in terms of equality and putting an end to the bullying epidemic and making sure that every family is respected in our schools and our society,” he told Matt, as reported by SF Gate.

Aww! The award was for the White Collar actor’s “meaningful contributions toward creating a world where every child learns to respect and accept all people,” specifically related to Matt revealing his sexualitywith his partner, Simon Halls, earlier this year.

Joe is one of the many True Blood actors who have stood up for gay rights. While Anna Paquin  is the most notable — especially since coming out as bisexual in 2010 — stars Denis O'Hare (who is also openly gay), Lauren Bowles, and Kristin Bauer van Straten have also spoken out about the gay community.
