Latest on Ravi- Clemente Suicide Trial

There is now a verdict which you can find at: Split Verdict on Ravi Case

NEW BRUNSWICK, New Jersey  Glance: Dharun Ravi looks at spectators during his trial at the Middlesex County Courthouse in New Brunswick, today. He is accused of spying on his roommate
The man who had a gay sexual encounter with a Rutgers University student that a roommate saw via webcam made his first public appearance on Friday, telling jurors that he had noticed the webcam in the dorm room while in a "compromising" position.

The man, identified only as M.B. and named a victim in the case, was one of the last people to communicate with Tyler Clementi, 18, who killed himself on September 22, 2010, after learning his roommate Dharun Ravi secretly watched M.B. and Clementi kissing.

M.B., now 32, testified that after his meeting with Clementi, "I texted him every single day" and court evidence showed that Clementi texted back.

M.B. said he had intended to see the Rutgers University student again but was not sure he felt comfortable meeting him in the dorm.

Ravi, 20, is standing trial on 15 counts of invasion of privacy, witness and evidence tampering and bias intimidation, which is a hate crime. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

He is not charged in Clementi's suicide, which has been portrayed as a tragic example of bullying and the toll it often takes on gay teenagers. Prosecutors say Ravi spied on Clementi and intimidated him for being gay. The defense says Ravi behaved childishly but did not commit any crime.

M.B., whose identity has been kept secret to protect his privacy, said he met Clementi via Adam4Adam.com, an online social network site for gay men, in August 2010, just before Clementi was beginning his freshman year at Rutgers.

It was on the second of three dates, all of which took place in the dormitory room, that he noticed the webcam aimed at Clementi's bed, M. B. testified.

"While we were intimate together on the bed, I glanced over my shoulder and I noticed there was a webcam turned toward the direction of the bed," he said.

"The only reason it stuck out was being in a compromising position and seeing a camera," said M.B., who said the men had sex on at least two occasions.

He later added, "There was no thought that someone was looking at me."

M.B. testified that when he left the dorm a group of about five people watched him and "it seemed kind of unsettling."

His testimony marked the first time the jury in New Jersey's Middlesex County Court heard from a witness who spent time with Clementi in the days before he died.

The two planned to see each other again, M.B. said.

"We wanted to see each other every single day. We had a good relationship," M.B. testified. Later he testified, "I left happy. And he was happy."

They met only three times, the shortest date about 45 minutes, the longest less than two hours. He never knew Clementi's last name until he read about his suicide in the newspaper, he said.

Other students who have testified were friends of Ravi's. A handful of them said they watched Clementi's encounter via webcam for a few seconds and only saw two men kissing.

While they testified that Ravi used the webcam to view his room, most of them said Ravi did not have a problem with his roommate's sexuality. One student testified that Ravi was concerned about a stranger in his room and wanted to make sure nothing was taken.

Under orders from Judge Glenn Berman, media cameras focused only on the hands of M.B., who was clean-shaven, with a stocky build and neatly cut black hair. He bore little resemblance to defense attorney Steven Altman's earlier statement that Clementi's visitor was "a scruffy, shady-looking, creepy, homeless-looking dude."

Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer apologizes to LGTB

This is a follow up on a previous posting
adamfoxie*/After The Progress we’ve Made

by Jim Buzinski.

Ohio State head football coach Urban Meyer has apologized to the Ohio State LGBT alumni group, Scarlet and Gay, for use of shirts whose color was perceived as offensive to gays. The shirts, given to players who loafed during conditioning drills, were called “lavender” by strength coach Mickey Marotti and that sparked a controversy. Ohio State said they were a “very purple,” but whatever the color, Meyer issued this apology:

Urban Meyer, photo by Greg Bartram / US PRESSWIRE

Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the purple mesh pullovers. The use if purple was never intended to offend anyone but since it has, we have taken steps to change the color.
Please accept our sincere apologies. We have core values of respect and honor within our program, and these are two principles that are central to my personal life, my coaching philosophy, and to Ohio State and its athletics programs. Bias has absolutely no role in how we think or operate.
The letter was sent to Tim Valentine, President of the Board of Governors OSU GLBT Alumni Society Scarlet & Gay, and Garett R. Heysel, Assistant Dean of the college of Arts & Humanities. and society vice president. The two issued this statement:
“Hidden under the guise of being a competitive motivator or “the only color left,” the choice of lavender reinforces homophobia and promotes bullying amongst students. The color lavender is associated with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community,” Valentine said.  According to Valentine, the decision to change the color of the jersey is a step in ending traditions which shame people for being different “when we should be celebrating the very differences that set us apart.” Society Vice-President, Dr. Garett Heysel was equally happy with Meyer’s apology.  “We saw it as another step forward for the University and for the Buckeyes.”
Scarlet and Gay hopes to use this issue as a springboard to discuss sexual orientation and its place in athletics. Ohio State’s College of Law’s Sport and Entertainment Law Association is hosting a panel and workshop on the national developments about homophobia in athletics on April 16.
I applaud Meyer for his letter. Regardless of the reason the shirt color was picked (be it lavender or purple or tutti-frutti), it clearly caused offense with the LGBT community. Changing the color was simply the right thing to do as opposed to doubling-down and trying to parse what color it actually was.

Another Hollywood star has sought treatment for prescription medication. Just days after Gerard Butlercompleted his rehab stint for alleged substance abuse, news broke out that "Hawaii Five-0" star Alex O'Loughlinfollowed his footsteps in seeking professional help to deal with his own issues.

A representative for the 35-year-old actor announced, "Alex is taking a short break from Hawaii Five-0 to receive supervised treatment for prescription pain medication due to a recent shoulder injury." CBS TV Studios has also released a statement that read, "We respect and support Alex's decision. Everyone at CBS Television Studios and Hawaii Five-0 wishes him well and we look forward to his return."

Deadline reported that O'Loughlin is expected to miss filming at least one episode of his crime drama series while in treatment. Though so, his absence won't likely affect production since it is said to be ahead of schedule. "Hawaii" has filmed 19 episodes for season 2 order and is currently shooting the 20th.

New NYC Center For Gay and Lesbian Seniors

New NYC center caters to gay and lesbian seniors

NEW YORK (AP) - New York City celebrated the opening Thursday of what city officials say is the nation's first full-service senior center designed specifically for the gay community.

A standing-room-only crowd of more than 200 people attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the SAGE Innovative Senior Center in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood.

"This is long overdue," said Lillian Barrios-Paoli, commissioner of the city Department for the Aging. "We are beyond thrilled."

The center is operated by the Department for the Aging and SAGE, a 34-year-old social service agency. SAGE stands for Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Elders.

Robert Philipson, a 77-year-old retired jewelry salesman, said he started going to bereavement counseling at SAGE after he lost his partner of 50 years.

"When you find yourself alone at 77 and you've built your life around another person, you are at somewhat of a loss as to where to go next," he said. "SAGE filled that gap."

Philipson said he and his late partner used to go to a straight senior center nearby and were welcomed there, but that center could not meet all of his needs when his partner died.

"They did not have the orientation to understand my position as a gay mourner," he said.

Although Thursday was the center's official opening, it started serving meals last month. Unlike most senior centers that serve lunch, the SAGE center serves dinner, albeit during the senior-friendly hours of 4 to 6 p.m. The suggested donation is $2 for dinner but no one is turned away.

"It saves money for me," said Mary Hynes, 75. She added, "a lot of the guys that I know, they come here and have their dinner. Otherwise they wouldn't feed themselves. They live alone and they don't want to cook for themselves, so they'll go without eating."

In addition to meals, the center will offer a range of services including fitness classes, health seminars, cultural outings and computer classes. It joins New York City's network of 258 senior centers across the five boroughs.

SAGE Executive Director Michael Adams said the center is going to change the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender elders in New York with its array of programs.

"And it is going to be ... a beacon of light all across this country," he said.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, the city's most powerful openly gay elected official, said the opening of the center represents another milestone for gay New Yorkers, who last year gained the right to marry in the state.

"There was a time not so long ago when both of those things would have seemed impossible," Quinn said. "And we are sending a message today that the impossible is not only possible, it is expected."

Speaking for herself and three other openly gay City Council members who attended the ceremony, she added, "Save us a chair. We can't wait to be here someday ourselves."

Restalyne Injections Will Make Your Penis Bigger

Injecting His Penis With Silicone

penis size
.

But, You Know, It's an Injection. Into Your Penis

Good news, bad news: First, a new study suggests there's a fairly quick way to enlarge penis size. The buzzkill: it involves getting an injection into your junk.

Fake Doctor Killed Man By Injecting His Penis With Silicone
LAWeekly.com is reporting results of a study conducted by Korea University, in which researchers found that injecting the family jewels with Restalyne increases the girth of the unit.
Or, in the more squirm-inducing language used by LAWeekly to describe the process, "Apparently injections of hyaluronic acid filler can increase girth when applied to the deep soft tissue in a 'back-and-forth' technique and 'homogenized with a roller.'"
The study results, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, suggested that, in tests conducted on 50 men, the average growth spurt caused by the injections was 4 cm.
And, after 18 months of treatment, the mens' partners averaged a 3.3 out of 4 satisfaction rating with the new and improved equipment.
All good news, but again, it must be pointed out: see that big needle in the photo at left? It would be plunged into your junk

Is that Harry and William naked? Not so fast. The blurry pics that look to be the naked princes celebrating with a bit too much gusto after a polo match are in fact look-alike models shot by artist Alison Jackson for theUK Cosmopolitan's 40th anniversary.
In fact, the photos are party of a cheeky campaign to raise awareness about prostate and testicular cancer for the Everyman charity.
But you can enjoy the naughty photo just as much. And if you squint, you'll never know the difference.

Zac Efron Reveals Tidbits About Himself } Interesting

Posted by Adam
ZAC Efron isn’t happy with his foreign stand-in.
The High School Musical hunk says he has noticed that the person who dubs his voice for screenings of his movies in certain European countries is not nearly butch enough.
“The first time I heard it was when we were doing an international press tour for High School Musical,” says Zac.
“I’ll never forget a premiere in Italy and Spain. Everyone else had this cool voice but mine was really high. I went, ‘Are you kidding me? I thought that I was being Punk’d somehow. So, my voice is still a very, very high voice in Spain and Italy. I have to get on that.”
Efron recently revealed his first true love was with his babysitter.
“Her name was Brook,” he said. “I guess she was in high school and I was 12 or younger.
“I had a really big crush on her. She was really spontaneous and fun. I guess I did have my young love. Me and my brothers did everything to impress her which was ridiculous really.”

Limbaugh Calls Georgetown Student a "Prostitute”

  by Hillary Reinsberg
Two weeks ago, Georgetown student Sandra Fluke was denied in her bid to testify at the Senate contraception hearing. Today, Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut” and a “prostitute.”
Fluke was supposed to testify at the hearing as a student at a Catholic university, in the debate over whether religious employers and institutions should be forced to cover contraception costs.
Here’s what Limbaugh said on the matter today:
What does it say about the college coed Susan Fluke [sic], who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex? What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex.
She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex. What does that make us? We’re the pimps.
The johns, that’s right. We would be the johns — no! We’re not the johns. Well — yeah, that’s right. Pimp’s not the right word.
As Think Progress points out, Fluke was actually going to testify “about a friend who is a lesbian and needed birth control for non-sexual medical reasons, so he’s only wrong about three times over, and offensive many more times over than that.”
Offensive indeed.

Craig Roy Get Life For Stabbing School Boy Jack Frew

Craig Roy and Jack Frew

Craig Roy admitted stabbing the 16-year-old 20
times and slitting his throat in woods in East Kilbride
in May 2010.

Sentencing him, a judge at the High Court in Edinburgh described the attack as "brutal, sustained and merciless".
Roy, 19, claimed he had taken a knife to a meeting with Jack to "scare him".
During the trial, the court was told that Roy and Jack were classmates at Duncanrig High School in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire.

Ferocious attack
The jury heard Roy had cheated on his long-term boyfriend, Christopher Hannah, with Jack and was plagued by guilt over his infidelity.
He admitted stabbing the openly gay teenager but claimed to have no memory of it.

Roy took a knife to a meeting at a wooded area near Wellesley Crescent and Mossneuk Road and launched a ferocious attack on his classmate.
Defensive wounds to his hand showed Jack had fought for his life.
Minutes later, as Jack lay dying, instead of calling emergency services Roy called Christopher, who went to the scene.
Giving evidence during the trial, Christopher said: "Craig had blood all over him. I was worried he was hurt. He wasn't saying anything. He wasn't making sense. He looked bewildered. There was a knife in his hand."
When he went over to Jack he said: "His neck was cut. It was open. I knew he wasn't alive.”

Defence dismissed
Roy had claimed that he was unable to deal with anger in public and chose instead to bottle it up and "explode" in private by self-harming.

Three psychiatrists who gave evidence said that while Roy had certain personality traits, he did not have a personality disorder and was not mentally impaired at the time of the killing.
The jury rejected defence claims he suffered from a personality disorder and should be convicted of culpable homicide, and instead convicted him of murder.
In a statement following the conviction at the High Court in Glasgow, Jack's family said his life was "snatched from him" and his good name "tarnished" by Roy.

Sentencing Roy, Judge Lord Doherty said: "You armed yourself with a knife which you brought to the scene of the crime. Using it, you carried out a brutal, sustained and merciless attack which left your victim dead and mutilated.
"In the whole circumstances, the punishment part which I fix is 18 years.
"Whether you are released after serving that period or later will be a matter for the Parole Board in due course, but if you are released back into the community it will be under the conditions of a licence and for the remainder of your life you will be subject to recall to prison if you are in breach of any of those conditions."

Grey's Anatomy } Who Would Be Showing Their Butt

Get ready for some skin from one of our favorite former Grey's Anatomy stars.
Grey?s Anatomy, Katherine Hiegl, TR Knight, Kate Walsh, Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Said star is showing major backside in an upcoming new series that could give Mad Men a run for its 1960s money.
Is it Katherine Heigl? How about T.R. Knight? There's also hunky Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Could it be Kate Walsh, who appears naked on the cover the new Shape magazine?
Read on for the answer...

It's Morgan who's droppin' his drawers in Magic City, his upcoming new Starz drama about the Miami hotel business in the early '60s.
In fact, you see his bare backside within just the first three minutes of the premiere episode!
And there will be no stand-ins for Morgan. "No a— double," he told me with a big laugh at the Independent Spirit Awards. "I would never allow that. People would ask me and I would have to tell them it's not me. I'd get so much s—t for it.
"It's mine," he said. "I do squats just so I can answer the question correctly."

But when he is dressed, it's the best of the best.
"I don't think I've ever looked better in my life," Morgan said. "I'm not a suit and tie kind of guy at all. I'm a jeans, T-shirt and motorcycle-boot guy. But the wardrobe on this show? It's suits, ties and tuxedos—except when I'm occasionally showing some skin."
We are so not complaining.

Blogger Breitbart Had Impact On Right, Left

Andrew Breitbart, June 2011.

Kathy Willens/AP
Andrew Breitbart, June 2011.
In life, Andrew Breitbart was the conservative blogger and provocateur whose sometimes controversial efforts against his ideological adversaries, both real and imagined, made him one of the most polarizing figures on the contemporary political scene.
In death, however, it was clear Breitbart had earned the respect not just of conservatives but of some progressives, too. The latter may have disagreed with his political views and tactics, but they admired his energy and the entrepreneurial verve with which he waged his campaign.
That doesn't mean that some on the other end of the political spectrum from Breitbart didn't find it difficult to express charity after hearing of the tragedy of a suddenly dead father leaving behind a wife and four young children. Breitbart's grenade-throwing style of political combat made it hard for some to forgive. That chilly sentiment wasn't uniform, however.
Breitbart, who had turned only 43 a month ago, may have seemed like a creature of the Internet age. But he was only the latest in a long line of American polemicists extending back to the nation's early history.

In his way, Breitbart was a hyperactive Web reinterpretation of the pre-Revolutionary pamphleteer Thomas Paine. Or of Philip Freneau, who, as a Philadelphia journalist during the early American republic, was an anti-Federalist propagandist for then-Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson.
Breitbart's influence on the great debates of his day obviously wasn't close to being in the same league as Paine's was in his. But his impact was undeniable and will be remembered for some time.
At the top of his greatest hits, so to speak, would be his contribution to the takedown of ACORN, the now defunct network of groups that advocated for low-income Americans, whose demise Breitbart hastened.
It was Breitbart who posted on his website James O'Keefe's hidden-camera video of workers for ACORN appearing to allegedly abet a faux pimp and prostitute.
Also near the top of the list would be Breitbart's role in the Anthony Weiner affair. The blogger's possession of suggestive photos that the married then-congressman sent to women via Twitter eventually forced Weiner to resign from Congress.
But Breitbart will also be remembered for an ends-justify-the-means approach that sometimes misfired.
Never did that seem truer than in the Shirley Sherrod case, in which Breitbart edited a video of the then-Obama administration Agriculture Department official to make it appear she had told an audience of fellow African-Americans that she once discriminated against a white farmer seeking federal help and was proud of it.
When the full version of the video emerged after Sherrod was forced out of her job, however, it showed that she had actually told the audience she had helped the white farmer despite conflicted feelings from all the discrimination she and other Southern blacks had experienced.
The moral of her story was that discrimination was wrong — exactly the opposite of what Breitbart's edited version of Sherrod conveyed. Sherrod sued Breitbart, who never apologized for the incident.
Sherrod, on Thursday, issued a succinct statement that belied all the emotions stirred up by her virtual encounter with Breitbart. The statement, as it appeared on CNN, said:
"The news of Mr. Breitbart's death came as a surprise to me when I was informed of it this morning. My prayers go out to Mr. Breitbart's family as they cope during this very difficult time."
Breitbart got his start in the world of of partisan propaganda/journalism with Matt Drudge of the Drudge Report, then worked with Arianna Huffington; he first met her when she a conservative. After her political transformation to a progressive, he helped her start the Huffington Post.
In an emailed response to a request from NPR for reaction, Arianna Huffington wrote:
"... I was asked many times this morning for my thoughts on what Andrew meant to the political world, but all I can think of at the moment is what Andrew meant to me as a friend, starting from when we worked together — his passion, his exuberance, his fearlessness. And above all, what I'm thinking of at the moment is his amazing wife Susie and their four beautiful young children. My love and thoughts are with them right now."
While he was a fierce, no-holds-barred partisan for his side, that didn't stop liberals from paying their respects Thursday. It was noted that even though he was a conservative, he publicly supported gay rights. Lisa Derrick, who knew Breitbart and whose LA FIGA blog is part of the FireDogLake community of blogs, wrote:
"Andrew was an instigator, a rabblerouser and while our politics so did not line up, he became an unlikely ally of the LGBT community last year when [he] told a CPAC audience"
" 'If being conservative means rejecting gay conservatives because they are gay, then fine, I'm not a conservative.'
"He later resigned from the board of GOProud over allegations that the group's leaders, Christopher Barron and Jimmy LaSalvia, had outed an official working with Rick Perry's presidential campaign.
"I disagreed with a lot of what he did, but I appreciated that he existed, if only to be a huge counter balance ..."
But while some on the left, like Derrick, noted the loss of someone they saw as a worthy opponent, conservatives mourned the loss of a blogger-activist whom many on the right viewed as a brash champion for their causes.
Erick Erickson wrote on RedState.org:
"What I admired most about Andrew was his willingness to be the lightning rod despite criticism from both the left and the right. He was the lightening rod and when lightening struck, Andrew used the brilliant flash of light to direct everyone's attention to precisely what he wanted them to see. He was a master at it. The attention he garnered was never about getting attention for himself, but using the attention to tell the story and share the news he wanted told and shared."
The Republican presidential candidates weighed in as well. Mitt Romney tweeted:
"Ann and I are deeply saddened by the passing of @AndrewBreitbart: brilliant entrepreneur, fearless conservative, loving husband and father"
Rick Santorum told reporters:
"He will be, what a huge loss ... for our country and certainly for the conservative movement and my prayers go out to his family. I'm really sorry to hear it."
Breitbart was an early presence at Tea Party rallies nationwide, and there was a profound sense of loss in that movement.
NPR's Neda Ulaby interviewed Jenny Martin for Thursday's All Things Considered. Asked for the reaction of Tea Party activists to the news of Breitbart's death, Martin said:
MARTIN: "They feel like lost a true patriot and they lost a fighter who was willing to fight fearlessly for our core values of our country. ... He set the tone for a lot of the political discussions that happen today. He created news. He broke news. His voice will be missed."
In May 2010, The New Yorker ran a profile of Breitbart by Rebecca Mead that is well worth reading to gain a sense of the suspicions he harbored about liberal conspiracies and how he went from aimless young man to committed conservative firebrand.
