4 Marines Arrested for Assaulting A Gay Man Outside Bar
According to eyewitnesses, four men who claimed it was their first time at a “gay bar” came into the Silver Fox last night. No one thought anything of it, though they did notice some uneasiness about them. After closing time, a verbal altercation started between the four men and one other Silver Fox patron. The altercation escalated when one patron said he was calling the police. The four men attacked him. Another bystander tried to help and was assaulted as well. After police sirens were heard, the four suspects tried to flee the scene, but were caught and arrested by police.
Eyewitnesses claim that police identified these men as Marines, believed to be stationed at Camp Pendleton. According to police, the suspects were kept overnight. It is believed they will be transported back to Camp Pendleton by military police to face prosecution through the military court system. The incident has not yet been officially declared a “hate crime” since the official police report does not come out until tomorrow. At least one of the victims was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. UPDATE:
Authorities confirmed Tuesday that LBPD Violent Crimes Detectives are investigating the case as a hate crime, but it has not been confirmed. They are presenting their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Today.
According to police, U.S. Marine Corps have also been notified of the incident, and the Marines are conducting their own investigation.
CBS reports that the victim is afraid to show his face because his afraid the Marines might have friends out there who might want to hurt him. They have also identified person who helped the victim as Silver Fox employee, Charlie Harris.
No other names have been released due to ongoing investigation, said police.
