Letterman foot in Mouth Gives out Ending "The Dark Knight"

David Letterman shocked Anne Hathaway and enraged fans after revealing a "spoiler" from the upcoming film, "Dark Knight Rises" on "The Late Show" on Thursday night.

"I saw this movie, the Batman movie, and in the end - Batman is dead," Letterman said on the late night show.

Hathaway was on-hand, promoting the third film in the Batman trilogy, when Letterman dropped a whopper of a plot point, which the gracious actress refused to confirm or deny (Spoiler Alert).

"Dave!" Hathaway said. "I just want you to know the wrath that you have just invited onto yourself. Chris [Nolan], I had no part in it, I'm sorry."

Letterman proceeded to laugh it off, denying that the super hero dies. The spoiler wouldn't have been a surprise to some fans, who have wondered if Bruce Wayne will be taken down by the villainous Bane, who breaks his back in the comic books.

"The Dark Knight Rises" is the final Batman film by Christopher Nolan, who kicked off the trilogy with "Batman Begins" in 2005. It is also the last film for Bale as Batman. The movie stars series newcomer Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays a Gotham City cop named John Blake.

Hardy plays the masked villain Bane, an escaped convict who gains superhuman strength due to a series of drug experiments. In the DC comic books, Bane breaks Batman's back after attacking him in the Batcave, leaving the superhero a paraplegic.

Oscar winner Marion Cotillard plays Miranda Tate, a board member of Wayne Enterprises who is eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne, Batman's alter ego, resume his father's philanthropic endeavors for Gotham." Both she and Gordon-Levitt starred in Nolan's 2010 film "Inception." In the trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises," Tate and Wayne have an intimate moment.

Liam Neeson confirmed in March that he will reprise his role of Ra's al Ghul in the new movie. "The Dark Knight Rises" is set for release on July 20, 2012.
