PBS Stations support their communities with programming and initiatives that address local issues. Below are just a few examples from the National Center for Media Engagement of stations making an impact in their community.

ECONOMIC ISSUES
KCTS, Seattle:  Helping Others Rise Above the Financial CrisisKCTS partnered with 30 community organizations to address unemployment, housing and personal finance issues.
KERA, North Texas: Maximizing Resources to Help CommunityKERA launched a year-long, multiplatform initiative to help people cope with the economic downturn.
WCNY, New York:  Community Intervention Inspires the UnemployedWCNY organized a televised town hall meeting to help the unemployed and also created a resource guide with the local United Way.
FAMILIES & CHILDREN
South Dakota Public Broadcasting:  Building Stronger FamiliesSouth Dakota Public Broadcasting partnered on a program teaching parenting skills to incarcerated fathers and helping them maintain contact with their children.
KPBS, San Diego:  Empowering YouthKPBS organized a program in which incarcerated teens presented to other teens about youth dating violence.
HEALTH
KNME, Albuquerque:  One Step Toward Reaching Families in NeedKNME convened “Take One Step for New Mexico Women,” an initiative to help medically underserved people in New Mexico.
