For the city of Newark,
Whitney Houston's funeral did not come cheap. As reported by the Atlantic Wire, police officers amassed $187,00 in overtime. This is approximately 5 percent of the police department's budget.
The city's officers were 'barriers between fans and the proceedings on the day of the funeral.'
A few residents are unhappy about the fiscal hit to the city budget, and wonder why the family isn't footing the bill.
'If they wanted it to go that far, do that much, they should have been the ones providing for it,' Quincy Ruffin said to CBS News.
Others are still miffed the public was kept a number of blocks away from the church where the service was held.
'I think it was a waste of time and then now we find out what happened and how she actually died, it makes you think twice saying was it worth it or not,' resident Minerva DelValle also said to CBS.
City Councilor Mildred Crump counters the extra police presence was required due to the size of onlookers.
'If they had not been there someone may have been trampled, seriously hurt,'  the councilor said.
The pop star died on 11 February. On 22 March the Los Angeles County coroner's officeconfirmed her death was due to accidental drowning and the effects of heart disease and cocaine use. gaystarnews.com
