White House Thinks Gays Make A Fine Home

The White House came forward last night opposing legislation working its way through the Virginia legal system that would allow agencies to deny adoption to gay couples. Might want to read this before deciding where you’ll be searching for your new gayby.
The legislation, currently in the mix of this predominantly Republican state, would allow agencies to deny adoption to families based on religious or moral values, specifically with faith-based agencies in mind. We know Virginia's one of the more rusty-colored states on the liberal scale, but would they really deny a deserving child a home for their bigoted sense of morality?
The Washington Blade published testimony from the Family Equality Council that the bill would allow all licensed organizations, not only faith based, to  place children with families that were in accordance with religious or moral policies. The group also says the bill would allow any agency to cast their moral judgment on prospective families, regardless of faith.
The bill passed the Virginia House 71-28 last week and is expected to pass the Senate shortly and be signed by the Gov. Bob McDonnell not long after that. Unless, that is, they started thinking children rather than politics and religion. But hey, who are we to say that a child shouldn’t stay in the system?
When questioned by the Washington Blade, the White House responded that President Obama believes adoption placement shouldn’t be “based on discriminatory and irrelevant factors.”
White House spokesperson Shin Inouye, commented, “He recognizes that adoptive families come in many forms, and that we must do all we can to break down barriers to ensure that all qualified caregivers have the ability to serve as adoptive families.”
Federal legislature known as the Every Child Deserves a Family Act is also on the rise in Washington, which, if it passes, would trump the Virginia Bill. So Obama, are you going to put your money….or super bill-signing pen where your mouth is when the time comes? It’s time we did something with that expendable income you seem to keep telling us we have.
