Straight Guys claim they'd go gay for Thierry Henry
A match-winning goal by Arsenal striker Thierry Henry caused straight football fans to claim they'd 'go gay' in adoration, this week.
The tongue-in-cheek declarations were announced via micro-blogging site Twitter.
It comes after Leeds were beaten 1-0 by in Monday night's FA Cup third-round tie at Emirates Stadium.
Henry, for whom the game marked a comeback, scored the only game in the 90-minute match.
Delighting fans, several took to the social networking site to declare their love for the sportsman.
"Thierry Henry is a man I would turn gay for!" said one. "Im gay for Thiery henry," [sic] wrote another.
"I am gay for him all over again," added a third fan.
Similar comments surfaced online for an hour after the match finished, marking celebrations across the capital.
Writing for The Guardian, acclaimed journalist Paul Flynn wrote that it was a dynamic moment in football's evolution into gay acceptance.
"For an hour after the whistle blew on Tuesday it seemed like a corner of north London had been whipped up into enough of a euphoric rush to embrace the last demon of its parent association, the FA.
"The fans had inadvertently flipped the association's latent, exclusive attitude toward homosexuality on its head."
Thirty-four year-old Henry, who is on temporary loan from the New York Red Bulls, will spend the next six-and-a-half weeks with Arsenal.
