No Whalers this Year: News from 'The Sea Shepherd'

I have a lot of respect for the Sea Shepherd and whenever I can get news of what they are doing I try to publish. They believe that Whaling is poaching and totally unnecessary. Killing the whales, this endanger species to feed people that can not get Whale taste out of their mouths is very unfair to all. These are mammals just like we are. They are highly intelligent and have so many secrets to show us. With todays technology, we do not need their oil to light our lamps, nor their skins to keep us warmth nor their meat and blubber to feed us and help us cook. The United States has look the other way on Japan, the biggest culprit of whale killing. I understand that out of disasters we get lessons that stick with us. Since whaling is not cheap, I hope that Japan puts whaling way back on their burner as they reconstruct their beautiful country after the recent experience with these awful disaster.

No Welfare for Whalers This Year?

No welfare for the whalersThe Japanese whaling industry, otherwise known as the Institute for Cetacean Research, has been kicked off the dole this year.
The corporate welfare whale killers will most likely not be able to return to the Southern Ocean in December 2011. The Japanese government this week announced massive budget cuts to divert monies for the restoration needed to repair earthquake and tsunami damages and to help the people evacuated from the no-go zone around Fukushima. In addition, the ongoing crisis of keeping the nuclear reactors cooled is draining hundreds of millions of dollars from the government treasury.
This has resulted in cuts across the board, including child support, senior citizen support and pensions, and infrastructure repairs and maintenance.
However, the government bureaucrats of Japan are still driven by pride, anger and revenge. For this reason, Japan recently sent a delegation to Palau to pressure the Republic of Palau from working with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Japan has offered but not yet confirmed that they will supply Palau with a patrol boat and funds to operate it if Palau rejects the agreement with Sea Shepherd.
Sea Shepherd will be quite satisfied if Palau gets the support of Japan for the patrol vessel and funds. That will allow us to go onto other Pacific island nations to make similar offers, which hopefully will motivate Japan to respond with counter offers. We may be able to manipulate Japan into providing fishery patrol vessels to the entire South Pacific region.
So there is a small possibility that the government could still risk public outrage in Japan by once again subsidizing the Japanese whaling fleet. And if that happens, Sea Shepherd ships will once again return to the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary to continue our interventions against unlawful Japanese commercial whaling activities.
There have been a few critics who have been advising us to lay off Japan because of the recent disasters. The point is that Sea Shepherd interventions are not targeting the Japanese people. We are addressing unlawful activities – whale poachers in an area far from Japan, the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, where whales are supposedly protected by law.
Would the war against drug trafficking be put on hold if Colombia has an earthquake? Would we stop opposing shark finning by Chinese longliners off Latin America if China suffers an earthquake? The answer is “no.” Natural disasters cannot be used as a justification for illegal activity including the violations of international conservation law.
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is dedicated to shutting down all illegal whaling activity by anyone, anywhere, for any reason. There can be no discrimination. Poaching is poaching and not only is it ethically wrong – it’s a crime!

The BIEBER Got EGGED IN Australia

Justin BieberJUSTIN Bieber isn’t universally loved!
The teen singer was left reeling after being egged by concert-goers when he hit the stage in the Australian city’s Acer Arena Friday night. Six eggs landed by the Baby hitmaker.
Bieber then backed way from the mess to allow for a quick cleanup—and carried on with the show, reports E! News.
Recent reports claimed Bieber is being torn apart over his parents’ feud.
Mom Pattie Mallette and dad Jeremy Bieber – who fought a custody battle when Justin was really young — are at odds over their son’s fame because they feel like they have been sidelined by his mentor Usher, managerScooter Braun and stand-in Hollywood dad Will Smith.
“Pattie is forever sniping that she gave up everything for Justin and she should be the person who makes the decisions,” a source said.
“Jeremy wants to be at the center of his son’s life. He hates the way other men, especially Usher and Will Smith, are acting as father figures.
“Pattie was only 17 when she found out she was pregnant. Jeremy was a year older and a real bad boy. They split up when Justin was a tiny baby, but they’ve been fighting ever since.”

Priest jailed after stealing to fund expensive gay lifestyle but he remains a priest

A Catholic priest in the United States has been jailed for three years after being found guilty of stealing more than
$1 million to spend on a lavish lifestyle including regular visits to gay bars, the services of male escorts and designer clothes.

Father Kevin Gray, 65, from the Sacred Heart Parish in Waterbury, Connecticut pleaded ‘no contest’ to allegations that he shared a New York flat with a man who he also paid for to go to Harvard University, the Daily Mail reports.

But Gray, who first raised suspicions when disappearing from his church in April last year, will not be forced to pay back what he stole after the diocese in which he worked did not claim damages, The priest may even be allowed to return to priesthood after seeing out his sentence.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Diocese of Hartford said in a statement: “Father Kevin Gray’s plea demonstrates that he is fully aware and responsible for the severity of his wrongdoing and is repentant.

“After he completes his sentence, if devoted to his priestly commitment, he will be eligible to continue serving as a priest, but will never be placed in a position where he will manage finances.”

Gray’s method of stealing from the church by making cheques out to himself, and using the money to finance a lavish gay lifestyle was exposed in documents he left behind. But Gray’s lawyers claimed many of the charges levelled against his client were exaggerated.

The Donald Says About Seth Meyers: "He’s a stutterer" Had a Hard Time

Donald Trump didn’t waste any time to respond to jokes about him last night at the White House Correspondents Dinner from President Obama andSaturday Night Live comedian Seth Meyers. Before criticizing Obama, Trump admitted he was impressed with Obama’s delivery, unlike Meyers who Trump reviewed declaring, “his delivery frankly was not good, he’s a stutterer and he really was having a hard time.”
Trump didn’t mind being the brunt of many jokes, but didn’t necessarily think Obama should have spent so much time on issues that weren’t serious:
“Well, I really understood what I was getting into. I didn’t know that I’d be virtually the sole focus . . . I was certainly in a certain way having a good time listening. I don’t think the American people are having a good time paying $5 gasoline . . . I was thinking to myself as they were doing this, that you know, the American people are really suffering and we’re all having a good time. I thought it was inappropriate in certain respects.”
And Trump also responded to some of the controversy erupting from his profanity-laced tirade, admitting he probably wouldn’t be doing that again in the future.

“Mobile Protest Units” are coming to... Tony Perkins House?

  by Paula Brooks
Tony Perkins, the president of the anti-gay hate group the Family Research Council (FRC), has been peddling lies about gays and lesbians for years.
And Tony really hates it when we win…. so Perkins has been kind of besides himself since King & Spalding, the law firm hired by House Republican leaders to defend the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), decided to drop the case.
So he has ratcheted up his rhetoric this week and he likened LGBT’s to terrorist, called us cowards and said, “That’s why the groups like GetEQUALand others are forming what is basically a mobile protest unit. Yesterday, its activists rallied outside the offices of King & Spalding–only to learn that its attorneys had bailed on the case. So what did they do? Hopped in the car, drove across town to Paul Clement’s new firm, and started demonstrating there.”
Tony is not often right and he really miss that cowardly terrorist call by several hundred miles…since the only acts of real terrorism we have reported on this week, was a terrorist act committed against a gay man by cowardly terroristswho likely think a lot like Tony….. and who did not show up at a law firm, in broad day light, to peacefully protest , but came instead in the middle of the night to Brent Whitehouse place in Morgan County, Ohio to set fire to his barn, and burn alive 8 of his horses.
However he did get one thing right this week…  and according to GetEQUAL! Director Robin McGehee, we are, indeed, creating the “mobile protest units” that he references.
But rest assured Mr. Perkins, while one of these “mobile protest units” may indeed show up at your house one day, they won’t do it in the middle of the night with the intention to burn it down.

Cuomo Focuses on Gay Marriage While also Keeping the Eye on Fund Raising

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has steadfastly called for gay marriage and made it a top issue.
Mike Groll/AP
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has steadfastly called for gay marriage and made it a top issue.
Gov. Cuomo says he wants to clean up Albany ethics and bring gay marriage to the state.
It's not always easy for him to do both at the same time.
In the gay marriage battle, Cuomo and his team pushed four organizations to unite this month under one banner and message - and then they hired one of his best friends.
New Yorkers United for Marriage, as the group is called, hired veteran Cuomo adviser Jennifer Cunningham as their strategist, barely six months after she got out of the lobbying business so as to avoid conflicts of interest.
Six days after the groups announced their coordinated push, Cuomo happened to hold a fund-raiser for deep-pocketed gay and lesbian backers.
Held on Tuesday at the swank SoHo loft of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes and his fiance Sean Eldridge of Freedom To Marry, the event raised an estimated $250,000 for Cuomo's next election - which is 3-1/2 years away.
"In our community, we've had so many elected officials that talk a good game and don't deliver," said one gay supporter. "People are genuinely thankful that the governor has made this such a top priority."
It's not that gay and lesbian money suddenly turned Cuomo into a believer on the issue: He has steadfastly called for gay marriage and made it a top issue.
"You can't accelerate a commitment that's already at the top level," said Cuomo spokesman Josh Vlasto. "He laid out his agenda on the first day of the campaign, including making marriage equality a reality."
And Cuomo isn't just singling out gay and lesbian donors for special attention: He's raising money from everybody.
On April 13, the governor raised $220,000 mingling with business figures at the apartment of uber-publicist Howard Rubenstein.
Two days later, he called together his fund-raising committee at a Regency Hotel breakfast to set goals for how much they will raise for his 2014 campaign.
"He recognizes that he's got to do it while he's on a roll," said one person who deals with Cuomo regularly. "His poll numbers are at an all-time high, and everybody wants to be his friend."
Cuomo started the year with $4.2 million in the bank, but he's not necessarily saving it all for 2014 - he's said he may spend on off-cycle ads to push his reform agenda, and to counter any attacks he may face before then.
Still, nothing deters a challenge like millions of dollars sitting in the bank. So he has a major fund-raiser with women later this month, he's targeting labor - and he's using a June performance of "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" on Broadway to sell tickets up to $15,000 a head.
Cuomo isn't the only pol raising cash years before he needs it, of course - just the most powerful.
Four years ago, Gov. Eliot Spitzer started his first term by raising over $3 million in the first six months of 2007, said NYPIRG's Blair Horner.
We won't know how much Cuomo raised in his first six months until July.
But we know the most powerful man in Albany is tackling big issues at the same time he's raising money from people involved in them.
"They're all out shaking the money tree as soon as possible," Horner said. "The line between policymaking and fund-raising has largely been erased."

The Weight Issue: Gay Men Have As Many Issues As Straight Women

It’s not just women who have hang-ups about their weight, says Simon Glazin. Here the 27-year-old fashion journalist recounts his addiction to food as a teenager and how, after ten years of yo-yo dieting, he’s ten stone lighter…but still not entirely happy with the way he looks
A happily downsized Simon today
'If you have a food and weight problem, you have it for life – it’s a constant battle,'
says a downsized Simon today

When I was 17 I weighed 21 stone. That’s almost 300lb. And for me, it equalled a
46-inch waist. In an all-boys secondary school, and as an uncomfortable teenager, that was tough. But please don’t pity me. I ate. A lot. I had been chubby since I was about eight, and a couple of years later I vividly remember overhearing a paediatrician tell my concerned parents that I was addicted to food.
Going from a warm, friendly, fat-embracing primary school to a cold, stark, bully-laced secondary establishment was one of the most nerve-racking experiences of my life. It was bad enough being overweight, but even worse that the school thought they were taking on a bulky rugby player, when all I played was the accordion. So I proceeded to eat my way through my time there. When the bullies laid it on thick – because, let’s face it, when you’re that much heavier than everyone else, you are a very targetable minority – I stuffed my face even more. When I passed the school canteen, the chocolate would coax me in. I forged a friendship with the kitchen manager, who let me ‘take now and pay later’.
When I went home and comfort-ate I always felt happier after scoffing a packet of chocolate biscuits – until the cravings started again.
It didn’t help that I was also gay. I’d known since I was 13, although I was never bullied for it (I was only ‘out’ to a few close friends), but it wasn’t until my later teens that I realised being overweight and gay weren’t a happy mix. In the gay world, looks matter. I desperately wanted to fit in – not only with the rest of the gay world, but the clothes too. I saw all the fabulously dressed club kids and knew that I could never wear what I wanted to because of my size.
The turning point came when I went to a London club for my 17th birthday. It was my first time there, and I wore a hideous short-sleeved green shirt with a flower print over one shoulder. That was as designer as I could get at my size. Everyone around me was thin and happy; I was fat and awkward. I longed for a guy to notice me, but I felt unattractive to everyone.
I knew it was time to do something. I didn’t want to die young. I blamed nobody but myself for my weight; my father had been a large teenager and people say it can be genetic, but to me that’s an excuse. Soon after my birthday I sat in front of my GP and begged her to let me do a total food replacement diet called Howard’s Way, that had worked for a friend of my mother’s. My doctor was dubious and wanted to investigate it more. But three appointments later, she gave me the thumbs-up.
Simon in Ibiza aged 19 ¿ he put weight back on at university
Simon in Ibiza aged 19
For the next three months my lovely diet group became my second family: ten of
us, of different ages, men and women. I consumed only the four specially
formulated milkshakes or soups (packed with all the nutrients and vitamins you
need) and a minimum of four litres of water a day. The group met every day
for the first two weeks, gradually going down to once a week. I’d switched to a small private college to do my A-levels and had the support of everyone there too. Our meetings consisted of weigh-ins, urine checks to make sure we were in ketosis (whereby your body converts your fat into energy), bowel-movement discussions and
general encouragement. My family wanted me to succeed as much as I did. When we all had dinner together, I’d sit there and have my soup.
Once a month I had a check-up with my GP to make sure my body was coping.
Losing up to half a stone in a week could have its consequences, but the diet’s
carefully formulated ingredients, coupled with the water, made it safe. They say the more weight you carry, the quicker it comes off, so losing this much in a week was perfectly normal for someone my size. My energy levels were noticeably higher and, thanks to ketosis, I didn’t feel hungry after the initial two or three weeks.
At first I still felt big – I could only tell I was shrinking because my clothes didn’t fit any more. After three months, however, I felt like a new person. I had lost almost six stone and shed the fat teenager I used to be. My confidence began to grow. I could at last wear ‘normal’ size trousers and I was beginning to feel I fitted in – with my wonderful friends, with the gay world and with society, which unfortunately judges big people without even knowing them.
I became almost scared of fatty foods – I barely ate any for months – but I never starved myself
As part of the regime, we were taught how to reintroduce solid food into our diet. I came away knowing what was needed to maintain a healthy intake and avoid piling on the pounds again. And, for the most part, I kept it off. I completed my A-levels and went to university. With student life came late nights, a little too much alcohol and a student loan that stretched to Vivienne Westwood clothes and convenient junk food. My weight yo-yoed in those three years, fluctuating by two stone, and I left university the heaviest I had been since finishing the food replacement diet. I must have been nearly 16 stone and I knew the weight needed to come off again. So at 23 I tailored my own eating plan: I stopped eating for the sake of eating and only ate when I was hungry. My addiction, it seemed, had been reversed.
I never ate breakfast because I just wasn’t hungry in the mornings (despite all the experts saying it is the best time of day to eat). I would get peckish around lunchtime and might have soup or an avocado with cottage cheese, and then something light for dinner. The weight came off rapidly: almost another four stone in a year.
I became almost scared of fatty foods – I barely ate any for months – but I never starved myself. Friends and family were concerned that I wasn’t eating enough, but I was. And I felt good about my weight and myself. It felt different from the time when I lost all that weight initially. Don’t get me wrong – without that diet, and the support it provided, I would probably still be big (if not even bigger) – but this time round
it felt like a natural progression. It may have been a slightly unhealthy approach, but it worked for me.
I’m 27 now and my relationship with food has improved. I eat what I want in moderation. I joined a gym recently and work out as much as I can. And I judge my weight by the fit of my clothes.
But even after losing almost ten stone in as many years, and although, at just over six foot, I’m in proportion, I’m still not entirely happy with my body. Until recently I would never take my top off on a beach or look at myself in a full-length mirror, and I always think I’m bigger than I am. So three years ago I went one step further and had liposuction on my ‘man boobs’ – the one area of my body I felt most self-conscious about – because even after losing so much weight, this was stubborn fat that wouldn’t go.
I heard that the NHS recognised gynaecomastia (increased breast tissue on men) as a medical condition and sometimes offered such procedures, so I started researching it. I had to have a number of sessions with a clinical psychiatrist, who then put my case to the plastic surgery council. When they said yes, I was ecstatic.
My chest is flat now. I do, with a bit of encouragement from my mother or a friend, take my top off on holiday. And I would definitely consider further surgery. I have had a consultation for a tummy tuck but am still debating it as it is a much bigger operation. With major weight loss comes a lot of loose skin, and that’s what upsets me the most now. I enjoy going to the gym but I know that to get a flatter stomach I’d need surgery to remove the skin.
Having worked in the fashion industry for four years, in magazines and now online, I’ve realised that men have as many body hang-ups as women, but are often shy of talking about it. My days of having low self-esteem and being scared of food are over. It’s not that I don’t think about these things any more. I believe that if you have a food/weight problem, you have it for life – it’s a constant battle – but it’s how you make it work for you that matters. Mine is now under control and I can fit into as much Vivienne Westwood as my bank balance allows. I haven’t weighed myself for more than ten years, but today I have a 34-inch waist and have never felt better.
Although a total food replacement diet isn’t suitable for everyone, mine saved my life. I have no regrets from my weight-loss years; I’m a stronger person for going through what I have. So don’t live your life feeling as unhappy as I did for so long. Do something about it. Now.
