What is country star Rodney Atkins' weapon of choice? A pillow. The singer has been accused of trying to smother his wife during a drunken rage, but now says she's blowing the entire thing out of proportion.

Atkins, who has a #1 hit titled "Cleaning This Gun," was arrested in late November after a violent argument with his wife Tammy during which she called 911 and accused him of trying to kill her.

The 42 year-old country star had reportedly been drinking all night and at one point, according to Tammy, grabbed her by the face, threw her down the hallway and attempted to smother her with a pillow.

So much for being a southern gentleman.

Atkins was then taken to the local jail, booked and released on $2,500 bail.

Now that he's free, Atkins says his wife is exaggerating the argument, which his lawyer is describing as an "unfortunate verbal dispute." The singer has since filed for divorce.

It's a sad end to what looked like a happy love story. The couple first met when Adkins was working odd jobs in college, and Tammy Jo even appeared in his music video for the song "Farmer's Daughter."

The pair has a 10 year-old son named Elijah.
