A California transgender woman is reportedly planning a civil lawsuit after being tased in the torso and crotch by Imperial County Desert Rangers. Video and details after the jump.
As LGBT Weekly reports that Brooke Fantelli was stopped by a ranger while in the midst of a photo shoot in the Imperial County desert. Fantelli who has not been able to change her identification yet (her physician said she needed to live as a woman for two years) says the interaction with the ranger did not get hostile until he saw her identification.
Brooke says the officer claimed he was arresting her for being drunk in public but Brooke believes it's because she's transgender:
"He actually looked me straight in the eye and says, 'You used to be a guy,' and I said, 'Yes, I did.' There was no way around it. I could see it in his eyes. He wanted to do that," said Fantelli to San Diego's 10News last month. She added, "It was obvious. He hated me."
Watching the video, you can easily see that the tase was unprovoked and that Brooke (whose hands were in the air) posed no immediate threat. This is another example of police brutality and bias.
