George Michael is recovering well from a serious bout with pneumonia but it is not yet known if he will be released from a hospital in Austria in time to celebrate Christmas at home.
The 48-year-old star has been at the AKH clinic since Nov. 20 when he arrived with a chest infection.  He was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and had to cancel the final 14 European dates of his Symphonica concert tour.
Christoph Zielinski, the doctor treating Michael, told told Austrian TV and radio network ORF Wednesday that the singer has improved after serious worries about his condition.
'We know that he is doing well and we are generally optimistic,' Zielinski said.
Asked if Michael would be released by Christmas, the doctor said: 'That's an issue we haven't been able to decide on yet. And it's a decision that needs to be made with the patient.'
Michael's boyfriend, Fadi Fawaz, has joined his parents and sisters to keep vigil at the hospital since last month.
